High Praise for Fulltone Pedals!!!

Mike single handedly raised the bar for tone and construction of pedals. Like Teese, it took years of dedication, and collecting old pedals.

If you have a tweed amp, or a really dynamic, touch sensitive amp, you can get away without pedals, and I feel like you're more directly "connected" to what comes out ... (just IMO, don't shoot me!)

if you play an amp with great cleans, like a BF Fender, or similar, then you most likely want an OD or distortion to push it over the top for solos. The key may be the negative feedback circuit that BFs used to "stabilize" those amps - remember that when they were built, Fender was going for CLEAN. Later, when players started playing louder, they found great tone when those amps were pushed.

I don't play out, so yeah, I can get away with guitar/ cord/ amp a lot of the time, but I still have a bunch of pedals ... I just get a kick out of playing them once in a while, for the heck of it. "Heart Full of Soul" just sounds a lot better with my Soulbender! :)

As far as the Fulltone's, I have a SoulBender that I got on Ebay, and a custom colored FDII. I posted last week about the new OCD, because I listened to the clips on Mike's site, and they sounded terrific. I planned to get one, then GP came out in the current issue with a distortion pedal shootout, and gave the OCD and Editor's Pick. I put my order in, cause I wanted to avoid the stampede (:D) so I should have one next week.

I agree and I do this at home....Playing out and playing many different songs and styles requires me to have alot of different tones I can access...I don't hide behind my effects when I play, but I do need enough effects to nail certain tones or get the vibe at least....I need clean Fender tones,Marshall crunchy tones,Boogie type tones, and darker high gain tones to cover it all...Pedals gets me pretty darn close...

Re: High Praise for Fulltone Pedals!!!

I love my 3-mode blue Fulldrive 2. It sounds good with my old Fender amps of course, but it is just fantastic with my Orange AD15. I like all 3 modes, and the versatility they offer is tough to beat. For me, it's the pedal to have if you can only have one (besides a good tuner that is).

Re: High Praise for Fulltone Pedals!!!

Curly, I'm really interested in hearing that new OCD pedal. If Mike Fuller considers it his own OD pedal, I know it's gotta be good. I really should go see Mike's band, if they play out soon. I wanna hear the tone of the guy who started Fulltone, standing right in front of his rig, which is a late 60's Marshall halfstack and Blackface Fender.

Re: High Praise for Fulltone Pedals!!!

I just had a gluttonous thought. How cool would it be to have a pedalboard with nothing but white Fulltone pedals?

Now, that would be a sweet pedalboard!!!

Re: High Praise for Fulltone Pedals!!!

The ocd low/medium drive clips sounded amazing. I wasn't impressed with those high gain clips. So all you guys that are getting them will have to post more clips for us.

Re: High Praise for Fulltone Pedals!!!

Joneser,
I haven't seen Mike's band, but judging from his clips, that would be neat to do sometime. As you probably know, he won first place in GPs "Ultimate Guitarist Competition" Blues category many moons ago.
I agree with you that Mike is obsessive in a good way, like some other folks who've gone into the gear making biz. ;)

Stratcat,
since the FDII and OCDs are both really overdrives, I'd say the Distortion Pro is his high gain pedal. You might ask Stratdeluxer about that one, though.

The DP1 was terrible.I sold it right away....Sounded too solid state and had these annoying buzzy crap riding over notes...Save your money for anything other than this pedal!

Re: High Praise for Fulltone Pedals!!!

My other favorite FX companies are T. Rex and Banzai. For you guys that want the best distortion pedals available, pay the $200 and get either the Banzai Fireball II or the T. Rex Dr. Swamp. Miraculously, they're both on Ebay right now. In my opinion, these are the two best sounding highgain pedals out there.

Thanks for the info John,
I wonder where Fulltone went wrong with this pedal?
For $200.00 it should sound great :smack:

I didn't care at all for it...I have pretty fussy ears... :burnout:
The 69 pedal was very cool though..

Re: High Praise for Fulltone Pedals!!!

The low gain OCD clips were indeed cool.
The high gain clips didn't knock me out.

The settings were 9 o'clock for low gain, and 3 o'clock for high gain. It might have been better for him to use an intermediate setting, somewhere around noon to 1 o'clock to getter a little better high gain tone. I'm looking forward to checking it out.

Even since they came out in 1995, and I heard an orange Fulldrive II, I've been impressed by almost everything they've ever made. I actually lived a few blocks from his original location, which was his detached garage, turned into a shop with 4 workers. I visited his place to have the orange pedal modded and got to see his nice Fender and Marshall collection. Since then, I've had that orange FDII, a blue FDII, a 69 Fuzz, trem, a Gold Dejavibe, a Choralflange, and now the Clyde Deluxe Wah. I've sold all that stuff except for the Choralflange, but just recieved the Clyde Deluxe Wah a few days ago.
Man, what an awesome wah pedal....the very best. It's true bypass, has a 10 position rotary volume knob, and a 3 way setting for 'Shaft, Jimi, and Whacked. Jimi is the original Vox Clyde Jimi sound. Shaft is a wah that accentuates the higher frequencies for funk, and Whacked accentuates the lows, which is more dramatic for highgain solo tones. BADASS!!!!
Luckily, I got a mint one for $210, rather than paying fullpop at $289.

Who has or has owned Fulltone pedals, and whaddya think?

man, this is making me gas for a wah pedal!

Re: High Praise for Fulltone Pedals!!!

Fulltone: buy the first 49 prototypes..then the final revision no:50 is done:D
Well he makes very nice stuff, but he is not the first highquality builder, that would probally be Cornish.
Did he not start in 72 or close to it??
And was it only switching systems back then?
Never mind.....Fulltone is like PRS to me, pretty and very refined, but not my taste in many respects, I love his Dejavibe, the rest is not really my thing:)
Anyways I hope that some of my mad gearfriends will get one of the new drives.
Should be fun to hear it, and I'll look forward to the next updates;)

Re: High Praise for Fulltone Pedals!!!

Pete Cornish was pretty much the originator of the boutique pedals, but his only problem was that he didn't put them in attractive boxes and market them properly. Nowadays, his pedals look pretty cool, but man, they're expensive!! However, you want the best, you have to pay for it.
Pete Cornish made the analog switching systems and many, many really killer pedals for people like Brian May and Dave Gilmour.

They not only sounds good, they are effing monsters...well so is the price, but nobody else makes such pedals as Pete and Lynda....I really hope to get one of those G-2 sustainers one day...I tried one of my friends...fat was almost too small a word for it:D
It is by far one of the best distortions I ever have tried.

Re: High Praise for Fulltone Pedals!!!

I've been using this Clyde Deluxe for a few days now. It's the ultimate wah.

So worth the money.

Re: High Praise for Fulltone Pedals!!!

Hey Gearjoneser:

Is the toggle on the Clyde deluxe basically the same function as the internal trim pot for setting the gain?

They are insanely expensive, but I'd love to have one of the duplex pedals (still, 1000... ouch :yell: )

It seems to me, a perfect example of a quality boutique pedal is a Stephenson Stage Hog. I've tempted to shell out the money for it.

As far as wahs, I just spent big bucks for a Pro Analog Supa-quack and that should be arriving in a week or so. I can't wait, supposedly it's a Colorsound wah on crack. They are supposedly incredibly bubbly and expressive with a huge range. What's really cool is how Scotty puts his circuit in various old school wah coverings. The one I ordered is going to be in a vintage Arbiter Jen :D
