Hmmm... decisions, decisions... Build as is, or finish?

Re: Hmmm... decisions, decisions... Build as is, or finish?

How well would the Alumitones work if I did this as a baritone? I don't have a bari in my collection, and this is one possibility to add it.

Just fine. I had the Deathbucker and tuned it to open B. They're made for clarity.

^^
And they sound phenomenal under tons of gain.

I don't know if its feasible or not, but that top would look awesome with some southwest style artwork...the top left contour looks perfect for a sun/moon and the strata wood grain in the middle could make for a nice mountain side...maybe I just see things differently...lol

Just thought of this...

Anybody know someone *really, really* good at woodburning?

So, what did you go with? (I assume that the choice has been made, since this thread is well over a year old.)

Either Tung-Oil or Trans-blonde is my vote (the whiter one, not the yellower one).

So you've started on it or not yet?

Re: Hmmm... decisions, decisions... Build as is, or finish?

Not yet... I test fit a few of my necks on it last night, and the neck pocket was routed a little fat; I'll need to laminate the neck pocket with some veneer.

I also need to rout out the insets for the back panels, give it a light finish sanding, and decide how I want to do that Dark Tower motif on it (and put a finish on it!). Right now, I'm thinking the text over the pickups, and then painting the Gunslinger between the bridge and the strap button.

I found this https://500px.com/photo/94361143/the-man-in-black-fled-across-the-desert-and-the-gunslinger-followed-by-beau image on the 'net, and was thinking of focusing in on the figure, blowing it out to 2 tone, and adding a gun to the right hand, and using it as a stencil.

Still not decided between woodburning it on, or painting it as a silhouette... If I woodburn it, I can do some careful sanding to bring some details in the figure, like clothe wrinkles. I'm not a good enough painter to add details like that in sepiatone, which is how I would I want to keep it.

Either way, it's gonna be a while before this one is complete.

Me gusta!

I know a local Atlanta guy who does natural finish art on guitars–lots of carvings and stuff. Don't know if he could do the wood burning but if you want a contact just let me know. Looks like an awesome project!

Sure, pass it on, please. Can't hurt to talk to the guy...
