Home Recording setups

I have zero issues with Cubase, but after working in the studio primarily w/ Logic it´s just becoming more and more intuitive for me, that´s all ;)

Logic = Mac based and Mac's = superior for music. :laugh2:

That said, Zerb, I'd check out Digital Performer ASAP. Best program besides PTHD, IMO.

Logic has some *amazing* softsynths, though.

Re: Home Recording setups

You guys all suck... (my band's setup)--->:chairshot<---(everyone else's)

We are basically running a few crappy Behringer mics into an old Roland mixer (no idea what model), everything gets balanced in the mixer and the mixed signal goes through digital out into a laptop's digital in, to Sonic Foundry Acid 5.0. It gets the job done, but you don't have to be a genius to know that the recording quality is lacking :D.

Of course when we actually record something for an album we will mic and record everything separately and hopefully it will sound a bit better.

I *strongly* suggest spending the cash on a local studio - many aren't that expensive, but the difference in sound quality will be amazing. It's totally worth it to pay a guy who knows what he's doing and has the proper equipment for any kind of even slightly important demo.

Re: Home Recording setups

$9 wal-mart USB mic and windows sound recorder :D :blackeye:

I've probably got a (good paying) mowing job starting in the fall, so I'll probably save up for an Mbox then.

I dunno, owning 2 licensed Cubase Versions and Logic, I´d think I´m pretty much set as far as arrangement tools go... but I´ll look into it if it´s free ;)

Re: Home Recording setups

i myself have a G4 1.4 GHz ibook (only 512 MB RAM :( ) running an mbox with protools 6.9, just for recording little doodles on my own and for school projects.

collectively, the band has a dual G5 2 GB RAM, not sure about the processor speed, digi002R, SM57x4, SM58x3, MXL 990/991, presonus tubepre, and soon a few KSM27's.

Re: Home Recording setups

I forgot to mention I use windows sound recorder, and click record again on the minute mark every time without fail :D

I'm thinking of taking a picture of my post now, with the picture in it, and editting my original post to make some kind of weird mc escher dreamworld

******n, that's quite a bit of power! Got any samples done with it, or pics of the setup?

samples to come in due time, the 002 is still a pretty new acquisition. but perhaps i'll snap a few pics when we throw down some tracks (which will hopefully be soon!)

Re: Home Recording setups

I run v-amp2 straight in the sound card.. I really need a good sound card etc to mic my amp coz v-amp
always sounds like thru a big towel...

Ardour/JACK under Debian GNU/Linux 3.1...

AMD 2.08 Gig processor with 512MB RAM
EMU 0404 Audio Interface
Behringer Mixer
Audio-Technica ES 973 Studio Mic
Sure Beta 58
Sure SM 58
Sure SM 57

Crappy Accoustic environment, so lately, I've been using my GNX3 for guitars. By the time I get the tone I'm searching for with my tube amp, other acoustic properties are effected by the room... It's just for personal amusement anyway...

Re: Home Recording setups

I'm just getting into this stuff so all I have right now is an M-Audio Firewire Solo interface, and an M-Audio Oxygen 8 midi controller. They were given to me so I can work on some things at home - my friend's house is actually the studio. I use Sonar & Reason for recording software. Guitar Rig handles the guitar sounds right now.

Re: Home Recording setups

The core of my setup is a MBox 1 with PTLE 6.4 + factory bundle. I am in the process of upgrading almost everything else. Here's what's on my wish list:

Mackie 1202 VLZ Pro
Audio Technica AT-2020 and AT-2021 mic bundle
A new screaming hot desktop PC
D-TAR Mama Bear
M-Audio USB keys of some kind
Reason 3.0

I record guitar and bass with my PodXT. I am looking to get the bass model pack for it.

I monitor with Samson 5" powered monitors, and Sennheiser cans.
