Home Recording setups

What are you guys' Home recording setups?

I've simplified mine down a lot:

Line6 Toneport UX1 (love it!)
MXL 990 mic
Shure SM57
Art Tube MP mic-pre

Reason 3.0
Adobe Audition 2.0
Cool Edit Pro 2.1
FL Studio 6 XXL
Cubase SX3, though I surprisingly don't really use it nearly as often as Audition and Reason
(These all have ReWire capability, which is great)

Novation ReMOTE 25 LE (in the mail!)

Then, of course, the guitars, congas, etc.

Since I like recording 1 thing at a time (guitar, mic, etc), this works pretty well. I'd like to get a nicer, larger diaphragm cardiod condenser and a new preamp in the future, but my wallet is running dry from the Novation and recent software upgrades. I'd also like to upgrade to the Toneport UX2.

What's in your home studio?

Re: Home Recording setups

Why do you have so many DAW apps? Thats alot of money invested in duplicate software

Re: Home Recording setups

Audition and cool edit pro are the same software . .. and as far as I know, cool edit pro is free. As for my recording setup, it's pretty simple:

Shure Beta 57 Dynamic Mic
Aphex 207 mic preamp
M-Audio Delta 66 soundcard

I'm hoping to add another mic (maybe a condensor) for vocals/acoustic guitar at some point.

Re: Home Recording setups

I use:
Cubase SX3
Kompakt Soft synth
TC Electronics Digital Reverb v3
Antares Autotune
Kjaerhus Classic series plugs
DigitalFishPhones plugs
SIR reverb
RME 9632 Audio card

Shure 57's
AT4050
Kel Audio HM-1's
Groove Tube Brick preamps

Re: Home Recording setups

Currently a crap P4 2.39Ghz with 1GB RAM, 30G HDD for system files, 200 for audio.

Nuendo 3.0 w/Waves plugins and DFHS.

PODxt via USB.

Scored a job this summer at $8/hr, 8 hours a day - will be purchasing a 15" Powerbook and MOTU 828mkII, with the same plugins/DFHS, and Digital Perfomer 5.0

Re: Home Recording setups

ahahaha you think that's crap? I'm on a 2 gig p3 with only 512 ram. Will also be upgrading within the next few months. Not as extensive as your upgrade, though- a few more hip hop sessions will probably get me where I need to be :p

My recording setup
Nuendo 2.2 w/waves platinum and a crapload of other plugs
Adobe Audition 2.5 for heavier single file editing (like vocal sessions)
podxt live
crappy behringer preamp(another thing on list o stuff to upgrade)
sm57 x 2
Neumann u87

Ibanez RG350EX-BK with Jeff Beck humbucker, the rest is stock

Yes.. I had older versions (most bought used online) and bought the upgrades. Plus, I do guitar/vocal oriented music (blues, rock, etc) and electronica. I've used Fruity Loops for a long time and bought a few upgrades (recently FL Studio 6 XXL...delightfully awesome!) for electronica, and Reason for both types of music. Vastly different. I use Cool Edit Pro 2.1 (Pretty much the same as Audition 1 when Adobe bought Syntrillium. Then there was 1.5, and then 2.0) for quick changes to audio, since it's small but powerful. I use Audition 2.0 for recording, editing, etc. I very recently bought Cubase SX3, and I haven't spent a whole lot of time with it yet.

They're not really duplicates. They're mostly similar, but there are a plethera of difference and I like the different features and interfaces for different purposes.

Mackie VLZ 24.4 Mixer
Rode NT1-A (1)
Rode NT1 (1)
Audix F15 (2)
Audix F10 (3)
Audix F12 (1)
Audix F14 (1)
Shure SM58 (5)
Pair of BX5 studio monitors
Shure Green Bullet (1)
Garage Band (Might be trying Cakewalk soon though)

I go for a very raw sound. I'm starting to use different ideas for things like vocals. Like a Green Bullet with a Rode for an area and another behind the Green Bultet. Very cool results already.
Damit, you have two Røde mics......i`m stuck with my studio project 1 mic LOL
I guess you have a good time recording vocals etc.:)

Re: Home Recording setups

My rig currently:

G5 PowerMac 2.2 - 1 gig ram
Waves 4.0 Platinum bundle
DigiRack 2.0
ProTools 6.9 with factory bundle

Vocal chain:

Aphex 207 dual tube mic pre
Dbx 1231 EQ
Dbx 166XL compressor

Other stuff:

Pod 2.0
Boss DR770
Yamaha S80 Synth

Mics:

Shure 57s-58s
AKG PL790
AKG Drum mics
Blue Ball
AKG C3000B

Stuff to get:

Rodes K2
Senn E609
Presonus 8 channel ADAT mic pre
Monitors
Digi Control|8
New PowerBook (live use)
3 gig ram for the G5
Serious room treatment.

I am weakest in the monitors and room treatment. I can get great tone here in the room but it doesn't translate well to the outside world. I spend way too much time and energy trying to mix in a bad environment and then remixing from memory after hearing my stuff in different environments. Real monitors and some tuning/deadening of my current room will definately make my musical life much easier.

Re: Home Recording setups

Very simple.. Korg d32XD. 2 Radio Shack PZMs. 1 SM58 clone from the 80s. CAD Drum Mic kit. POD 2.0 for Bass. 16 amps, so the tone variety is endless.

Use the living room for drums and the basement for guitars.

Re: Home Recording setups

Someone is reamping?
I just think it would be cool to record clean tracks at home and send them thru the amp at the rehearsal room!

Yeah I have. I generally record the guitar through a direct box along with the amp. It opens up a lot of options. If the one isn't quite right when everything recorded you can go back and change tones without replaying the track. The direct tracks are also ideal for amp sim plugins although I am not a big fan of them. Commonly used though

SX-3 and VST 5.2.... some people can´t afford to be caught with pirated software ;)

I´m starting to prefer Logic, though....

I have been using Cubase forever and never seem to have any of the issues everyone complains about on their forum. What is it about Logic that is pulling you in that direction?

Re: Home Recording setups

I have zero issues with Cubase, but after working in the studio primarily w/ Logic it´s just becoming more and more intuitive for me, that´s all ;)
