I finally finally got around to order stuff to my home studio/home recording. It's gonna be setup like this:

Computer:
- Dell Precision 340
- P4 2.8Ghz
- 2GB ram
- SCSI harddrives

Audio interface:
- ESI Maya44 (24-bit 96/192kHz 4x4 audio interface-card)

Mic:
- Studio Projects B1

Preamps:
- Studio Projects VTB-1
- ESI Maya44 internal mic preamp

Bass:
- Alba P-Bass (Major thanks Adrian for helping me out here! :D)

MIDI keyboard:
- M-Audio Keystation 61es

Monitors:
- Acoustic Energy Aego M (not real monitors but fantastic clarity, so they'll do for now)

Headphones:
- Sony MDR-XD200 (for now at least)

Other stuff:
- Cordial high-quality cords all around
- Metal pop filter
- K&M round base mic stand
- K&M boomstand
- Acoustic foam (for building a "portable song booth" kinda thing)

It will be simple, easy to work with and easy to move around if needed. I fighted with myself wheter to get a external mixer or not, came to the conclusion that I don't need it. I rather get a decent 1ch tube preamp and use the internal Maya preamp for diversity. When I want to upgrade I can ditch that one (as it probably isn't too great ;) ) and just buy another external one and plug it in. I won't need more than to channel recording at once anyway. Plus a cheap mixers aren't known for their micpre's ;)

SO now you guys are gonna get some better quality music from me to listen to ;) Just wait until I get the stuff home and get to know it :D

I'm excited!

You're going to have so much fun with that set up. Have you decided which recording software you're going to use? If you want to add a brilliant drum program, check out Addictive Drums. http://www.xlnaudio.com/ Really easy to use and sounds fantastic. You can download a working demo to check it out. Good luck with it all, we look forward to hearing the clips!

Sounds like a great setup, bro! I can't wait to hear more of those SoundClick recordings...and see pics of the new studio. :)

Congrats!

Re: Home studio...finally!!

When you upgrade I'd look into getting something like an FMR RNP rather than a tube preamp . . . and a dynamic mic (sm57, md421, RE-20) is pretty much the industry standard for recording guitar. Other than that everything looks cool! I'm sure you'll have lots of fun . . .

That's a good call, the FMR stuff is fantastic. I've still got a few RNC compressors hanging around in my old outbaord rack, great quality sound for the price.

Re: Home studio...finally!!

wahwah, thanks for the tip! Gonna check it out :)

callous_frigid_chill, It's at my apartment right now and I'm living elsewhere over the summer. But we'll see, I might have to go get it if I can't live with just the Pro Junior over the summer ;)

KGMESSIER, yeah yeah yeah... gonna shoot some pics for you as soon as I get it home and set-up :D Can't wait!

GuitarStv, I've read alot of great stuff about the FMR RNP, and their other stuff as well. And I also know/knew that the industry standard kinda is a sm57 into a nice solid preamp. Was really keen on getting a RNP but the price was a little to steep for me right now. And as I'm gonna record vocals and actually focus more on learning to do decent vocal recording over the summer I figured that a condenser mic would be a better choice. And I've read that the Studio Projects combo of a B1 and a VTB-1 work amazing together I figured that it was THE way to go. Especially at the awsome price you get these for :)

I have the next upgrade ready also. It will/have to be a completely silent guitar recording solution as I'm going back into the "no noise" apartment life after the summer. So I'm gonna get a H&K Red Box + build a speaker dummy load. That way will be able to crank the bluesbreaker in my apartment without having the speakers attached and instead record direct in through the Redbox with it's speaker simulation. It will be the perfect apartment solution as I don't want to go POD or such, having a Bluesbreaker standing dust collecting next to me ;)

But after that, I'm going FMR RNP...hopefully :D

StrangeSound, Thanks! The bass has "Arrived at country of origin" or whatever the status was 29th may. So I'm prob gonna get it any day now. Cool stuff! I'll take some pictures asap :D

Re: Home studio...finally!!

Congrats, that will be really nice!

I have the Studio Projects B1 myself, and from the little I've tried it I liked it a lot. I think you can use it with great success for the most part without spending for a dynamic one.... but you'll find out eventually of course..
