Homemade tube amplifier!

Dear All
I'm an electrical engineer and familiar with making electric circuits. I need the circuit diagram for a medium size and power audio amplifier using tubes. I'll buy the components, the loudspeaker and take the tubes from an old TV or whatever. I also need the technical specs for a fine loudspeaker( including the range of the output audio frequency, amperage, voltage drop and watt). Any advice will be helpful, thanks.

Look up Marshall Plexi or JTM-45. That should do nicely. Don't use old TV tubes. Use new tubes from Mojo Musical Supply. You can buy all your parts from them for relatively cheap.

The website is really interesting, I guess I'll need an advice about connecting tubes to the circuit, I've never used them before(the order of the pins). One more thing, do you know any circuit design that use only tubes and no trans. at all? The idea is the less you use the trans, the more the sound will taste sweeter.

You, sir need to start at the beginning. There's a lot more to guitar amps than wiring up a bunch of tubes. Learn the basics, what makes different amps sound the way they do, etc. Once you know what kind of amp you want, find a schematic for it, or deveop one yourself. It's possible to make a guitar amp out of non-standard tubes like those pulled from a aTV, but it's likely to become a research project. You'll get much more help and guidance if you stick to the dozen or so tubes that most guitar amps use.

Remember, safety first. You could kill yerself messing around with high voltage components.

EDIT: Ah forgot that you already mentioned you're are an electrical engineer.

EE might be heavy on theory and light on experience with the high voltages and currents in tube amps. The warning is a good idea, even for your friendly neighborhood electrician.

Why do you want to build one? I'm entertaining the idea of a small SS amp just to mess around with. Why not start with a Ruby or something like that? Don't know what you need it for (school project or some playing) but it might fit your needs better.

Fortunately the long exhausting days of faculty projects had gone. I used to make complicated circuits but it was control circuits or digital circuits. I always think that audio and communications circuits need more professional people though it has simple design. The output of these circuits is not zeros and ones it's heard and seen so it's easy to recognize the bad output. Thank you all for your valuable info.
