Thanks guys

I'll try to make that hard choice.

Re: Hot pickup for les paul.

I really don't like what an A8 does to a custom or demon, it just sounds abrasive and harsh to my ears. And not in a good way.

Then you're saying that you haven't tried/heard the C8 compared to the Custom (with ceramic mag)!! Because it is just the opposite!

Re: Hot pickup for les paul.

I play nothing but hard rock and metal, and IMO, Les Pauls don't need a high output pickup because they have balls already. But I do have one loaded with a 496R/500T set that sounds nice.

Really, most amps these days have enough gain so that PAF pickups sound good for metal.

Re: Hot pickup for les paul.

I've used Alt8, Custom, and PATB-3 in my LP for hard rock and metal. I like'em all. They all give me big sound with different flavor. Everytime I change the bridge pickup, the neck pickup stays: Screamin' Demon.

Re: Hot pickup for les paul.

I'm not big on really hot pickups but really like the sound of an Alnico II loaded Hybrid in the bridge of a Les Paul.

Re: Hot pickup for les paul.

I can't think of a better pick up than the Custom for the bridge.

Neck, take your pick, I really the A2 Pro.

That's the same combo I'm using in my Les Paul right now!
For hard rock or classic rock, it's great. With distortion, you get the Slash sound from the neck pickup. Clean, it's nice and mellow. Bridge-wise, you get the PAF on steroids sound, great for anything from old Van Halen, AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, GNR, and it can get plenty heavy too. It's really crunchy. The best example of what it sounds like in my rig is "Jailbreak" by Thin Lizzy. nails it...

Re: Hot pickup for les paul.

I was just about to give another suggestion for the bridge but see that elelpe beat me...

The Alt8 really sounds great in the bridge of an LP and would sound great with the Slash in the neck.
