How about the Dimarzio Breed? Any users?

I'm looking for a Dimarzio to pair with two cruisers in my strat. From the EQ the Breed looks like it might be muddy because of the huge bass and midrange, more so than the Tone Zone, and I didn't like the TZ too much. Any comments?

VERY VERY powerful bucker. Over powers the cool rails a bit in the neck to my ears. Huge bass, but not muddy. But my axe is maple so YMMV on the muddy issue tho.

Hot, but not as much crunch as my Dime. Doesn't clean up to well, but thats what I have the cool rails for.

I went standard screws/A3 to soften the tone and add some mids, but it sounded really good before I did that, just dont dig A5's too much.

If you want to warm up your axe, but need a high output bucker, can't go wrong with the breed.

I was shootin for a big clean powerful sound. Breed'll get you pretty close to that if your axe is on the bright side.

Radius the poles so the middle strings aren't overpowered by the low E. I'm running it a thru 250k pot.

Just make sure you have another pup for the cleans or split the breed or go parallel.

Get the Breed neck model. Not muddy but not the clearest sounding pickup either. Has more balanced bass & mids than the Breed bridge model and a more traditional sound than the Tone Zone. Will balance better with the Cruisers as well.

I have a Breed in my HM Strat Ultra; basswood body, ebony finger board and Kahler trem. I use a 250k volume pot, a TBX tone pot and have a mini toggle to split. Wonderful sound, tight bass (alnico 5) and smooth treble. Powerful as humbucker and fat Strat-twang when split.

breed neck model sounds like a fatter paf pro in the bridge spot
it will go great with the cruisers:)

the breed bridge may be too tone zone like for you?

Yeah, it´s a high output pup but it´s not a muddy pup at all.

Through the POD2 (which has an only average cleans) they sound dirty and with plenty of mids because of the high output/construction.

It has some edges for sure.

I had an Ibanez RG-470 a few years ago. I was looking to replace the stock neck and bridge pickups. I was shopping at a local store and their pickup guru, while fun to listen to was full of crap. He basically quoted from DiMarzio's website:

DiMarzio's Website said:
"Tech Talk: The Breed™ was designed to warm up and smooth out the sound of 25 1/2 scale trem guitars. It's got a lot more power than a PAF®, but it also has a finer "touch" than high-output models. Picking hard will generate a lot of voltage, but a softer attack will clean up the sound of an overdriven amp."

I was told, and it's on DiMarzio's site, that Steve Vai wanted one of his Jems to sound more like a Les Paul. Well, the tone I got was really big beefy sound. Did it sound like a Les Paul? Well, not exactly; but it di have a lot of the characteristics of an LP. I really liked mine. When I sold the RG, I let the pickups go with it because I knew I wasn't going to get another guitar with that kind of build. And, to me, it was made for that build and is too muddy for anything else, at least to my ears.

Hmm...personally, I'd suggest an Air Zone. :smokin:
