How can I tell what kind of wood my MIA strat is?

I have a MIA fender strat...a strat plus model. it's a maple neck, but how can I tell what the body is?

I got this guitar used years ago, but never checked to see what wood it was.

I'd beet money it's alder. I wouldn't bet a LOT of money... :burnout:

anyone else know any useful info? I'm pretty sure the guitar was made in 1984 if I remember correctly

Re: How can I tell what kind of wood my MIA strat is?

It might depend on the finish ... I think that some of the transparent finishes on the pluses used ash, similar to what G & L did - alder on standard guitars, ash on premium finishes - but I'm not sure of the years

there are probably some strat buffs who know over on the FDP Fender forum, if no one knows for sure here ...

a pic might help, BTW :)

Yes...post a pic. We'll be able to tell you. If you've compared it to other Strats and your guitar seems heavier than others it's probably Northern Ash. If it seems lighter than most others it's probably Alder. If the grain has a feather pronounced and feathery looking grain pattern, like a Lousville Slugger baseball bat, it's probably ash. That's what most baseball bats are made of. Lew

It's definitely heavier than any other strat I've ever picked up... I'll try to post a picture later

Then it's probably ash...not swamp ash...Northern White Ash...baseball bat wood.
