How close would the SD Pickup Booster get me to the active Guy or Clapton tone?

Bump, I'd be quite interseted in knowing the answer to this.

nothing like each other. i have and use both but they are nothing alike.

the clapton/guy boost works best with bright pups and the tbx tone control to bring high end back into the tone.

the pup booster is a clean boost and even with the res switch moved it doesnt change the tone the same way. itll add a little bid beef but not like the fender boost. i like the #1 setting on the pup booster with alnico V vintage toned single coils but prefer the 0 with all humbuckers.

Jeremy said it well and he's dead on...the claptopn/Guy boost is really focused in the mids while the Duncan Pickup booster is a flat EQ boost until you mess wiht the res switch, even with that it only cuts the highs a little (or a little more) but it never turns into a midrange booster...

a tubescreamer would be a little closer to that sound IMO

closer, but not the same. the clapton boost is centered around 500 hertz or so and can give a huge (12db) mid boost. ive never gotten that tone with a tube screamer no matter what the settings.

Actually in Rudy's Music in NYC they have a gadget I tried to buy a few times but it's not for sale. It's the Clapton midboost circuit inside a SD Pickup Booser casing- they use it to test how the clapton circuit will work on certain guitars

i don't think that'd be too hard to make

our old friend donzo built something very similar, a clapton boost in a box. seems like a cool idea but having swapped lots of pups into and out of this guitar. the preamp works best with lower output bright toned pups. and works best with the bridge and/or middle pups. it can get kinda wooly with the neck pup and full boost.

im using the classic stack plus set now and i think its the best match ive ever used. great classic strat tone with the boost down and a hotter much fatter tone with the mid boost up.

i have the pups set pretty darn low from the strings to keep the non-mid boosted tone no hotter than a vintage set of buckers. the preamp has a good amount of boost even with the mid boost off
