How do you guys prefer to record electric acoustics?

Re: How do you guys prefer to record electric acoustics?

Thanks for the info guys.

After toying around with some configurations I think we are just going to keep the piezo completely out of the mix and just work the mics until we get a good sounding setup out of it.

+1,000,000 on the SDC mic a few inches away pointed at the 12th fret. It really sounds great that way and if you keep it just a few inches away you'll get a strong pickup from the acoustic while still getting a little bit of the room in there as well.

I have toyed around with multiple mic placements +/- mixing in the mcyintyre feather built in pickup on my PRS acoustic. Always came back to a small condenser mic 12 inches from the 12 th fret. With my old mic ( a shure SM 81) I always recorded the guitar's pu and mixed it in just to fill out the sound. Yesterday I got a Neumann 184. Only used it once so far. Check out my clip. Recorded both gutars with it 12 " fron the 12 th fret. Nothing else. Sounded good to me. Will likely try other options but considering that was the very first recording with it right out of the box I am pretty happy with it.
