How do you keep your picks handy?

Re: How do you keep your picks handy?

-- I like the spring-loaded Dunlop holders. I have one on the back of my practice amp, one on the side the old wine rack where I keep my various supplies, and one on the wall next to my half-stack.

-- I like the leather Dunlop pouch; that's a constant part of my key chain.

-- Small piles of picks here and there -- on top of my 4x12 cab, for example. (I've got a mini-head, so there's plenty of room.)

-- Two rice bowls -- one full of a variety of different picks, the other full of my Dunlop 1.0mm blue Tortex. As much as I love trying different picks, that one's my constant.

-- So I guess if I were playing out, I'd want to be close to my amp; that's the place where they'd be most likely to be handy.

I use double sided tape on the edge of the headstock a-la Slash. The tape lasts a couple weeks usually and the picks stay well enough to not worry about them falling off without hitting them. Plus there's no residue on the pick when you pull it off. I've been doing that for almost 10 years now.

Everywhere, in my pockets, in my car, on my desk, on my amp, on the mic stand, in cases in various little boxes and trays like snacks.

Mic stand clip. Set the stand off to the side and it's easier to grab a pick off of the stand with your picking hand and then get back to work. Grabbing on from a stand in front of you is much further to go.

Live, I keep them on my amp or on my guitar holder. I never use more than 1, and I don't have problems dropping them, so I don't really need many.

I store all my picks in that other dimension where Bugs Bunny and Link from the Legend of Zelda keep all their ****. The Pick of Destiny is floating around there somewhere too but I can't find it.

Re: How do you keep your picks handy?

I use those for clean picking only. I almost always wear jeans that have a small pocket just above the regular front pocket on the right-hand side. I suppose they were originally intended to be watch pockets, but I call them pic pockets.

For some odd reason I almost never drop a pic while I'm playing, so those in my pocket are close enough.

A girl asked me last week why I had so many pics in my pocket. I told her I never know when I might run into a guitar ... or a guitar player who needs a pic. I have five with me right now and they are all different gauges/materials.
How funny. I have always called the pick pockets too haha.
I always like to have a few to throw in buskers hats. Not sure if they love it or hate it though. Anyway, sorry to dry hump the thread. Back on topic...

I've got a Planet Waves strap that has a little pick-pocket on it,but teh Jazz IIIs are too small & fall right thru...

When we play out I've got 1 of the mic-stand thingies & there are a few tins/saucers around the room...

Re: How do you keep your picks handy?

I buy 30 of 'em at a time and keep one in my pocket. The rest start in my guitar case and migrate to convenient resting places.

Re: How do you keep your picks handy?

Double sided tape on the back of the headstock. Keep them pretty handy and the tape can come off without leaving residue of you want to try it out.

Re: How do you keep your picks handy?

I keep one in my mouth when I play with my fingers and a spare in my pocket. I don't have to worry about singing though.

There's also the wedgie...

I've thought about those, but the headstock is not a very convenient place to be storing a pick if you want the ability to pick it up and put it down on the fly. You have to reach too far!

I've been known to do that too... I usually am singing, though, so it doesn't always work for me.

I usually don't drop them either... or break them for that matter. I typically keep an extra in my pocket just in case, but seldom need it. My biggest thing is to have the ability to put it down and pick it back up again quickly when going back and forth from fingers to picks.
