How Do You Set Your Tubescreamer?

Re: How Do You Set Your Tubescreamer?

i use mine to drive the front end of my Peavey C30 combo for solos... i set the drit up just over half way and the volume up almost the same or a little less... then i play with the tone until i find what i like

Re: How Do You Set Your Tubescreamer?

Drive at either 2:00 or all the way. level at 2:00. tone between 11:00-12:00.

Re: How Do You Set Your Tubescreamer?

I still can't figure out how to use my Maxon OD-9. When I set the controls at recommended settings there is WAY too much volume difference between pedal on and pedal off. The only thing I can think of is that this only works at louder volumes, and I really don't crank up my Blues Junior, even at band practice.

Re: How Do You Set Your Tubescreamer?

Usually it's volume about 3/4 of the way up and gain to a "sweet spot" where the amp gets more saturated and 'flowy' without becoming mush or sounding like a swarm of angry bees... Maybe 10-11 o'clock on average?

Tone gets set at a point where it's not too thin... usually 1/2 way up or less.

But yeah, I usually start with the volume cranked and tweak from there... I'm using it mainly as a solo boost...

If it's pushing an amp for rhythm guitars then anything goes but that gain is still usually no higher then 1/2 way up.

That's what I'm finding with it, I never go past the 12 o'clock mark on the drive. I even like like putting the drive so low that it's almost off and turning the level and tone up a bit.

Re: How Do You Set Your Tubescreamer?

Well I dont use a TS, I use John Spina TS, much better. Also I use a Weber LiteMass so its a bit different ...
John Spina's TS is essential part of my thing, so its always on.
When I play at home
Mass
Low/Mids 12 o'clock, Mids/highs 3 o'clock
MV 10/11 o'clock, pre-amp dimed
TS
Drive 7 o'clock, Level 5 o'clock, Tone 5 o'clock

When I jam with drummer and a bass player:
Mass
Low/Mids 12 o'clock, Mids/highs 1 o'clock
MV 12/11 o'clock, pre-amp 1 o'clock
TS
Drive 10 o'clock, Level 3 o'clock, Tone 5 o'clock

Re: How Do You Set Your Tubescreamer?

Think about it, a dime = 10 cents. When someone says "dime it", they mean turn it to "10". ;)

I don't have a tube screamer but I do have a converted SD-1 to TS-808 specs aside from the tone control section. The level is set to noon, gain to 9 o'clock and tone to around 10-11 o'clock.

Re: How Do You Set Your Tubescreamer?

i use my TS at low settings, around 9 o'clock, to smooth out my amp distortion. with my metal zone, i get a super saturated smooth distortion with my TS around 4 o'clock.

at 10 o'clock, i get a nice transparent kind of gain on my clean channel.

Re: How Do You Set Your Tubescreamer?

I set mine on a shelf for 6 months, then set a price and sold it. That was in about 1981.

Re: How Do You Set Your Tubescreamer?

I set mine all the way up and I shred.

Re: How Do You Set Your Tubescreamer?

I keep the gain all the way down, raise the volume until it matches the bypassed level, and set the tone so it's trebly without screeching.
