How do you treat your gear?

With my guitars I'm protective. Even leaving one at the repair shop worries me sometimes(like if somebody broke in a stole my 20+ year old Westbury deluxe). My explorer had dings on it from where the drill slipped at the repair shop. After a gig or practice, I wipe the strings and put my guitar straight into a case. My amps, as long as no one puts their drinks or ash trays on them, it's cool.

Roadwarrior with a touch of thrasher. I love my gear, but my guitar case is missing a latch; I'll get a new case once I can ease my GAS for pedals and pickups.

My stuff is beat up, and I'm not proud of it. But I am proud of all the gigs that I played when my gear was getting beat up. My gear's seen a lot of different places, and I'd trade a few scratches for a great experience anyday. IMHO, if you have a prized collection piece that you don't want ANYTHING to happen to, it would be best to leave it at home. Gigs are just too hectic and minor gear damage is something that just tends to happen.

Protective. Minor dings im not bothered about, if i cause them! I think they make the guitar look well used. Saying that, not much has happened to my guitar, just a bit of belt buckle scratches that i dont get now since i wear my belt sideways wen playing now I do not lend out my guitars. other gear i would only lend out to good friends who can play.

I'm a Protective Roadwarrior. I really don't care what the amp looks like (to a certain point). The guitar is a different story, my ibanez is more dings than you can count and the strat has only a few. I usually play the ibanez drunk/stoned to not distribute the "love marks".

Protective. This musician prefers to handle his gear, to avoid
any damage. He'll let a buddy pick up his guitar, but won't
let him borrow it. This player avoids damage, but thinks
of dings as unfortunate battle scars.

Roadwarrior. This musician has decent gear, but has no problem setting things on his amp, owns no cover for it, and throws his
guitar cases around with no worries about their contents.
If a ding occurs on his guitar, he says "ah, it gives it character."

I try to make sure they don't get marked. I don't cry when they do though.

I don't lend gear out now very often - I've had stuff brought back to me damaged before (only minor though), so I don't do it often now.

Nobody borrows my amp. I only have one big amp, and I need it. If I had 2, then maybe I'd lend one out from time-to-time. It's all about respect for people's property - if I break someone's gear, I'll pay for it. This is why I don't borrow or lend out expensive gear, it can be the making of arguments when it gets broken and no-one wants to pay for it.

Definietely Roadwarrior. I play out too much to get overly worried about the cosmetics of my gear. I have hardshell cases for my guitars, but no case for my head. I have electrical tape across the front of my head with all my settings marked on it. I will get a case for my head one day soon, if I don't see a pedal I want first ...

I've seen the insides of my guitar become the outside, and I've blown about every part imaginable on my rig, including my own shoulder and groin! :11:

I have no problem with anyone using any part of my rig. I let the other guitarist in my band play thru my rig, or use my guitars, as needed. I will even let a guitarist in another band use my cabs, if I know him and we're sharing the bill.

I don't wipe down my gear after I play, although I totally dismantle my guitars when I change strings or do a setup, to make sure they are in perfect working order.

I'll let only trustable buddies play my gear. I'll never borrow anything, unless it is VERY trustable, and have good funds

I avoid *any* damage to my Gibson, but not that much to my Strat

I'll put anything on my amp : beer, girls, weedsmoking machine , but I must be careful, the Laney has a vent trap that becomes HOT, I can't put my UnionJack flag on top anymore... I usually throw my guitar cases around, but with some worries about their contents.. but hey, they both are SKB heavy duty case....

I don't use any amp cover... but I should. I like my things clean and good looking. My amp, guitars and pedals are always shiny and clean.

On my Marshall head, I put a couple of these stickers I got off of these "Adult" lighters, (the kind with the girl in a bikini standing on it, if you rub it creating friction and heat, her clothes disapear!), so when I play and my head gets hot, I got a row of chicks getin' naked to look at.

That's awesome. How long does it take for the head to get hot enough for the clothes to start disappearing?

In my eyes, a musical instrument is a tool. It is meant to be used, and if it happens, abused. I like the look of a guitar that you know has been somewhere and has really been used. As long as it does not affect the playablity or tone, I don't care what happens to it.
