How Do You Use Your Wah Pedal?

So ya guys curious, but how do you mainly use your wah pedal? Alot fo my fellow forum bros use the it seems, and i definately planning on getting one eventually, maybe a dunlop cry baby. SO ya how do you guys make use out of yours? Do you use it in combination with any other effects or settings?

I use mine as little as possible, only if the song calls for it- I don't like to overdo any effect. Sometimes I drive it with a distortion, sometimes, I use it in front of my overdrive channel. Depends on how dramatic an effect I need for the given song.

I use it a ton, funk rhythm really jumps with some good wah. Use it with a slow sweep in some song transitions, very much like a phaser with more range when used that way. Love it on leads as well. It really can add a lot of color to a tune.

I use mine to add some funky tones to riffs and to play some Hendrix songs. Right now I am looking at HBE's wah because by current cheapie DDE wah is dying, it looks really sweet.

I have a Dunlop and do not use it much any more. I am thinking about getting a mod for it though, because I miss using it.

Now that I've run out of interesting licks and idea's... I use it to rehash
my old stale licks and idea's... NOT ! :laugh2: Sorry to say there are a
few pro player's out there who do this. :rolleyes: I try to use my Wah sparingly. It's a matter of taste. Useing your wah in the right place,At the
right time, In the right context can add a lot of Dynamic's to your playing. :)

first pedal I ever bought was a wah-wah. Used Morley. Cos of...you guessed it. Michael Schenker. I used it the same way he did...as a filter. He VERY rarely used it for "wah wah" ing. He'd adjust it subtlely for whatever register of the neck he was playing in....for higher notes he' go closer to the floor...on lower notes he back it up into the "bassier" position. About the only time you hear him actually "wah wah" with it is on lights out. Mathias Jabs used it the same way.

Nowadays I don't even use one. I LOVE to hear Schenker use it...but its not for me anymore. IMO, way too many players (over) use them, and very, very few are really good at it (in the typical fashion)...Brian Robertson and Yngwie know how to use a wah "the right way" (IMO of course), and I enjoy listening to them do so.

Slash is a good example of a guy who annoys the living crap out of me with the way he uses one....UGH :yell:

I move up and down on it and make it go "wah wah waaaaah". It's pretty much my signature lick. "wah wah waaaaah"

I got one of the newer Donlops... the standard budget model..... Well made and does the job.. I've always wanted the Vox wahs but they are double the money of what i can get the Cry Baby for... When i was in a band i had a Wah and a Chorus on my pedalboard and that was it... The wah i had to try and remember to not reach for it every time i ran out of solo ideas.. After i while i got used to not reaching for it as often as i once did.. I figured after a minute or 2 most people listening to you wah away in a bar hear the wah and may think it's neat... after that they get bored and go back to talking... Use it a little can go a long way...

Unless a song like some by Hendrix really calls for a lot of wah i stay off that pedal as much as i can. But it is cool!

I like to put my DRRI up at a decent volume, bass at 5, treble at 4, then run my wah in for funk or jazz chording/comping. with the treble lower and the tone dropped on my strat, the wah works very subtly as a background effect and sound s great for jams.

I use a Bad Horsie, mainly for the occasional bit of emphasis on a note or two. It's not great for funky rhythms although I use it a little for that sometimes.
Mainly lead though, adding a little bit to some phrases.

I use my Vox Wah to add flavour to funky rythms. Or I just move it down and add a touch of effects to make some cool electric organ sounds.

I think A Wah sounds best when run clean or with just a hint of overdrive. The vocal aspects are there. When you play with a lot of gain it tends to kill a lot of the treble and the Wah looses a lot of its vocal range. Jimi Hendrix often would just kick it on and use it as a Treble boost. It a real cool effect. He also used his in combination with a Fuzzface.

I use mine in a lot of different ways. Sometimes I kick it in to do some funky chord work, sometimes I use it in combination with my TS9 to solo. It is a very versatile effect and you should have one and experiment to see what works for you. You have to be careful to not overdo it otherwize it becomes boring and redundant.

The other idea is shop around and get a good Wah. The Dunlops lack a lot of vocal range. The Vox is a better choice.... they just sound better out of the box. The Clyde McCoy is a good all around Wah right out of the box. Its true bypass also. Most people will tell you that the Fulltone Clyde Deluxe is probably the best "classic" sounding Wah out there. It pretty much nails the Hendrix/Clapton sound. They are pretty pricey, but IMO you get what you pay for!

I play rock and blues, and try to keep the wah to a minimum, using it only as something to really add flavor once in awhile. Too much does become boring. Sometimes I use it on chords but mostly for soloing. I have a 60's Thomas organ co. Vox wah but it's starting to crap out again so I'm buying a Snarling Dogs wah to use on a regular basis. The demos sound cool so I hope when I get it, it pleases. :smoker:

I use mine to go "bow chika wow wow" but because of the cheap construction and bad wiring it doesn't wow that well.


That bike thing is awesome, by the way...I'm totally gassin' for it...
