How does everyone like the newer Les Paul Junior?

I am seriously considering buying one. Is this a quality guitar? It seems to have a great price for those of us looking for a P90 guitar.

If anyone here has a vintage Les Paul Junior, and you have played a newer Les Paul Junior, how do they compare?

thanks alot

They don't compare too favorably from the factory. I think with a decent set-up and better tuners they could be pretty nice guitars, but I haven't bought one to find out. I'm happy with this old thing:

You must change that knob dude!

I'll send you one if I have to!! Make it right!!

Haha, I love it. You changed the tuners BUT NOT THE KNOB!

Haha, thanks, but that's alright. The tuners and bridge were already changed when I got it, and I didn't have any witch hat knobs laying around... so.... an old strat knob.. well, you know. You go with what works. :)

I like to fly in the face of convention sometimes. The strat knob is a big middle finger in the face of the cork sniffers, you know? :D

Never played a vintage LP Jr. but I have one of the Musicians Friend LP Jr.'s. And I'll say it again that these are kick ass guitars. The set up was pretty much perfect from the factory, maybe a few sharp fret ends but pretty good right out of the box. I'd recomend it if your looking for a no nonsense straight up P90 rockin tone guitar.

Not sure if it is fair to compare the low price Jr. with an old one. The original was the budget model but it was still made by the same folks using the same materiels. You would probably want to compare the original with the Historic. Gibsons first true cheapo soldbody was probably the Melody Maker and I have heard those sound pretty darn good. By todays standards, those 50's Gibby's were pretty much "cost -no-object'" instruments. the only real difference was the decoration in a lot of cases. About the only place you saw them really cut costs was on binding (or lack thereof), top carving and the tuners from the Jr.s and small acoustics. Mostly cosmetic stuff except for the hardware. The laquer finish on my little early 60's acoustic is really good. and it was essential a top drawer student guitar. You see a number of pro players that swear by the Specials and Juniors.

Love my R0 LP Special DC. There is magic between a mahogany body and P90s. Not everyone will get it, but I'm just glad I do :D

I've a MF Les Paul Jr. Best $600 I've ever spent. I hardly play my Highway 1 Strat because of it. That junior inspires me to play.

P90.s are pretty slick. The P90/ A5 staple pole combo in my R4 rips.

I have a '90s model (I guess that's considered a newer one). One of my fav guitars. The P-90 stunk so I swapped it for a Fralin. But I love mine, the neck is killer. The finish isn't like the originals, but it's nice.

I think Gibby's quality conrtrol is a bit off these days (as it is with most big manufacturers). They're doing too much volume. In my experience the P-90's are very much hit and miss. You might get a great one, you might not. I think mine spent a little too much time on the winder because it was a little muddy and dark.

All in all, great guitars--pure simple rock n roll machine.

Ltd. Ed. ''57 Les Paul Junior Reissue - What could be simpler than surface-mounting one dog-ear P-90 pickup on a slab of mahogany? But perhaps it is this simplicity that contributes to the Les Paul Jr's ability to so consistently produce great tone. And now, Epiphone recreates this classic set-neck, all-solid wood model at a price that everyone can afford. We've even added a P-100 humbucker for pure rock tone with no noise.

So will it have a 90 or a 100? I love the squeal and feedback of a 90!
