Never used the Kahler bass bridges, but was curious about them. How well do they work?

As well as the guitar trems, but they have the same weakness: string bind at the nut. If you’ve got a straight string pull, they do alright. At least Gary was smart enough to leave the awful string lock out of the design lol

3 right now.

Excellent, thanks! Is the DC close to EMGs version of a Stingray pickup?

The DC was originally designed for the single pickup version of the Modulus Quantum, and it sounds rather MM-like in the sweet spot IIRC. OTOH it's really aggressive in the bridge position of a two-pickup bass to the extent that I wouldn't want to use it there without rolling off some treble. If you're looking for something similar to a MM for a two-pickup bass, the CS (or TW) is a better bet. I have a TW in the bridge position of my Spector Rebop, and it gets pretty close to a MM tone in full humbucking mode. The single coil mode sounds like a JCS which is their deep/smooth Jazz Bass pickup.

In addition to the CS, DC, & TW soapbars, EMG offers a whole bunch of additional pickups in the 35-series 3.5" case. The J and JCS are Jazz Bass pickups, the latter with their Ceramic & Steel design for a deeper, more mellow tone. The 35P & 35P4 are both P-Bass pickups; the 35P for narrow-spaced 5-string, while the 35P4 is spaced for a typical 4-string.

Between longcat and myself we have 5 and don't really see a need for any more. Columbia is #1 with Ursula serving as a backup. The other three are for recording; the unnamed fretless is self-explanatory, while Lucy cops Jazz and MM tones, and Badtz does a great Jamerson tone (but not the chops unfortunately).

1 MIM Red Vintera P-bass with adonized aluminum pickguard. I play it at church pretty often.

Currently, 3.

My first serious bass was a Fender American Standard Jazz. I’ve since sold it, but it was a decent bass. I bought it because I didn’t know jack about how a bass should sound an MIA Std seemed like a solid starting point. In hindsight it was very clear/articulate, but lacked a little in the character department and had kind of a wimpy bridge tone.

Fender Jazz, Flea - I’m not a Flea fan and originally pulled this bass off the shelf as a joke. This bass is no joke. It’s thick and wooly with a lot of character. It became my primary bass and I use this bass for anything in Eb or below. Strangely, it doesn’t sound good tuned up to E. It kicked my American Standard to backup duty.

Suhr Classic J - I picked this one because in addition to sounding great it had a solid bridge pickup tone. It’s not as wild as the Flea bass and I choose it when I want a more clear/refined sound. This is my E standard, drop D bass. I sold my American Standard after getting this one.

I eventually got a gig that called for a P Bass kind of sound. I picked up an American Professional, again because I didn’t know what a good P should sound like and it seemed like a solid starting point, and again in hindsight this one was very clear/articulate but lacking in overall character.

Fender AO Precision - I played every bass in town and this one was it. I was looking for a Road Worn Precision hoping it would be a repeat of my experience with the Flea, but the only one I could find sounded like wet cardboard. This AO on the other hand just sounded killer. I actually left twice and went back because I was worried I was imagining it was good because of the price, but two years later and I don’t know how many hours on it and I feel I can say that it was worth every penny.

I’ve since sold the Am Pro P Bass, but I’m on the hunt for second P since I still need a backup.

I'm down to 2... Warwick Corvette fretless, and a one-off built by a guy named Meyers, which is a double cut with fancy wood and a really sweet humbucker.

Just one. A black, neck through BC Rich NJ Series Mockingbird. Circa 1984.

Sold off almost half of my gear last month, so now I'm down to just an Ibanez SRMS805 multiscale 5 string, and a Squier Bass VI

Now I'm not bassist, but...

I do have a budget Musicman Stingray and I do like how much range I can get on it with nothing more than 1 pickup, a volume and an active 2 band EQ.

Currently I have a Spector 5 string nedk thru with emg bqc preamp and dc/cs pups

Jackson JS3Q
Dillion Jazz bass
Sterling S.U.B. 4
Laguna lb224
Schecter Stiletto Custom 4

Just sold my yamaha rbx765a
& a Epi les paul special bass

Have had upwards of 12 at one time but i tend to move on if i dont like a bass or if it will cost too much to make me like it.
The Spector is what I wanted 100% and the others are just good basses that I bought in mint condition for CHEAP,except the Schecter which was cheap but abused by the previous owner.

I have bought and sold a dozen or so more in the past 3 or 4 years.

Thats nothing compared to the envelope filters that have come and gone during that time

(Source Audio Spectrum was the answer to that)
