How many of you play 1 of a kind guitars.

Today at work, I found out that a co-worker of mine is an avid guitar player. For whatever reason he had his guitar inside the building and he showed me. At first I thought it was a really beat up weird looking frankenstrat kind of thing. But later in the day I was thinking about it, and realized that the guitar he playes is one of a kind. Nobody else has a guitar that looks or is set up like his guitar. I think that is pretty cool the more I think about it. How bout anybody else? Post some pics if you have them.

Well, My glammed out Wolfgang is definitely one of a kind. Custom paintjob, duncan JB and '59 with coil tap/phase switch. Tone knob was removed.

umm.. if you ask me, every guitar set up by an individual is unique..

noone has the same guitar as i do .. all the holes, nicks, dents and scratches were made by me (for the most part)

plus noone is as sick as me as to butcher up an SG junior and make it cary 2 buckers

DC, you must be a very brave man....

as i know no person who'd wear that kind of spandex in this day and age

Re: How many of you play 1 of a kind guitars.

I think quite a few guys have custom guitars here. The only claim i have here is my re-finished Encore Strat copy. Got it off a mate for a tenner in terrible condition, previous owner had remouved the finish.....with a chisel. Anyway alot of sanding later and i had a pretty nice body, refinished it in pure white with a black scratchplate, all was good untill for some reason the cheap laqure or whatever it is that i used to seal the finish reacted with the paint and made small cracks all over the body, then a mate at school decided we could do something with it, so we took it to the art department and rubbed black acrylic into teh cracks, and voila, a sweet looking pure white guitar with black scratchplate and a black cracked effect finish. Looks great, unfortunately its still an encore, and it plays appaulingly.

I get more chicks complimenting me on those pants and rubbing my legs and ass, that I could give a sh1t what any male thinks. :) Plus if you can play and the bands good, you can get away with wearing whatever you want.

I hear that. I get the same thing when I wear leather, which is kind of "unusual" for the places that I work.

:laugh2:
not tryin to diss ya man.. but you ever left the 80's? (not considering that a bad thing ;))

Re: How many of you play 1 of a kind guitars.

strictly speaking, 3 of mine are 'one of a kind' in as much as i've modded them a good bit, but i dont think of them as 'one of a kind' as in exceptionally rare, custom-made, or irreplaceable ...

the 540S has custom switching options and 3 SDs, the Brian Moore has sperzels, 5-way PRS switching options, and 2 SDs, and the AM-50 has custom switching and 2 Bill Lawrence 500XLs

cheers

Re: How many of you play 1 of a kind guitars.

id say all the dudes with warmoth guitars have something 1 of a kind. im making a completely 1 of a kind RR through them this summer

Re: How many of you play 1 of a kind guitars.

I have a few guitars that are 1 of a kind...

I have a pair of Robin Medleys that are both one off's. One is the guitar that was made for the 98 custom shop catalog the other is one that I ordered shortly after purchasing that one it has features that were spec'd not quite like any other.

I have a mid 80's BC Rich Warlock that was a custom shop item. Its actually odd in that its a bolt on neck where as most USA Richs at that time were neck through. It has the huge cavity routed for all the boost and filter switches some of the BC Richs came with yet it was only fitted with a single volume knob and a 3 way toggle. It has no serial number and for a long time was a big mystery. Recently though I was informed by Neal Moser that it was an actual custom shop piece the reason why it has no serial number is cause the custom inlays that were ordererd. He said a neck would have been taken off the production line and used before it was given a serial number stamp.

Another I have is a Class Axe... I have little actual hard info on its origins I bought it when I was 13 off of the used rack in a music store in podunk idaho. Its basically a bolt on soloist guitar. At the time alot of the features were hard to find in off the shelf guitars. The inlays I have never seen anything else quite like them they are blocks in the upper left hand corner that are contrasting diagnol stripes of red and white pearl. The back of the head stock is signed "Lynn Wheatlecroft" (i'm not certain on the last name as its hand written in sharpie) The only info I have ever been told is that the guy worked out of Salt Lake City. Its nots one of your local assemblers with Warmoth parts everything about it is unique. The way the pickup cavities were routed the style of the neck I havent seen anything else like it. Actually if anyone has any info on Class Axe I would greatly appreciate it. Oh I do know its not that same class axe that bought BC Richs import line.

But all that being said I think Davey has a point... Even if you play a Squire that there are 10 million of most people will make individualize them so they are all one offs in a way...

yeah man, i know its funny. Yeah I've only been doing this 80's tribute for about 2 years, hence the clothing. The money is insane and we play a ton, so I'm not complaining and I've gotten 2 endorsements deals out of it.

I played in various original bands with a "normal" look. I toured for a year with a funk band that had a horn section and I've done studio and live gigs for a variety of blues, Metal, rock, R&B artists too. So I've left the 80's plenty and now I'm back in it which is super fun and super nice to my bank account.

DC's whole gig is an 80s hair metal tribute band...you have to dress like that if you're going to be true to the tribute...

rock on DC! long live the 80s!

remind why we need to leave the 80s again...

uh, because the youngsters don't have the chops to pull it off like us old farts do... hehehe.

Re: How many of you play 1 of a kind guitars.

Anyways...my Wolfgang has an OFR, Duncan 59b with an A2 magnet, APH-1 neck.
Jazzbass knobs;)
My Kramer Pacer is pretty stock, except for the C5 humbucker it has, everything else is like it was made in 87.
My sole remaining Tokai strat is a real mongrel, right now it has some obscure Fender singlecoils...but it sounds quite ok, the headstock got the classic Kramer Beak treatment...hehe
it is also repainted...and will be so again this summer, will probally get another strat that is less beat up.

Re: How many of you play 1 of a kind guitars.

Rid,

I've always been meaning to ask you... speaking of one of a kind.. Are those Green tolex covered 5150's in your avatar or am I seeing things?
