Re: How Many Try Amps.......

I bought my Celtic Franklin without playing it. I did get to hear clips from a couple of forum bruthas, though.

Re: How Many Try Amps.......

Before you buy them? I am talking more about high end amps that aren't readily available in your neck of the woods.
My Genz Benz El Diablo and Fender Super Sonic may not qualify as high end amps, but the Genz Benz is not available at a dealer that I know of in my area.
I got both online, without trying first, and am pretty happy. Very happy in fact, considering what I paid for each. No doubt I'd be absolutely ecstatic with a $2000 amp, but I'd be in a little financial trouble then.

If I did have $2000 to spend on an amp, I guess I would wanna play it first.

Re: How Many Try Amps.......

You need to get your facts straight. This is James West of Bonepicker Custom Guitar Amplifiers

1. I have met or spoken with every person who has one of my hand built amps; that have a lifetime warranty as long as I live and I have never failed to honor that warranty.
2. I only built one pedal board amp, that was immediately copied just like my all tube champ amp that fit in the palm of your hand.
3. The guy I built the pedal board amp for sent it back and had me convert it to a head when he moved to DC to make room in his apartment. I have the original chassis to this day.
4. I contacted the company who is a big name I wont mention here and insisted they change the name of their product so I would not be implicated in their garbage. As far as I know they have but I don't read the trade rags much anymore. Someone else brought it to my attention when I was mentioned in Guitar Player Magazine and I saw the big name company's ad on the next page, I pulled out my phone called said company's Product manager and had a less than pleasant chat with him about their bold claim of having built the first pedal board amp as I have years worth of documented research, pictures and product. He agreed we hung up.

Either your friend does not have his facts straight or you don't have your facts straight. Or some fly by night copied my product and used my name to rip people off which I am sorry to hear. My web site has been down for quite some time due to a near debilitating injury in a car crash. I still build Point to Point to order using the best parts available and I still sell amps to this day and I have never screwed anyone on an amp and I will never screw someone on a amp, that's my name on that amp and it is my word. I want to see a picture of this amp or have your friend call me and send me pictures. 2083602691.

Get your facts straight before you use my name in vain anywhere! It's slander if you can't prove it moron. Like the guy above said in his tagline, "think about what you type don't just mash the keys and hope for the best".

I went through this for a while and got so fed up, I was close to buying a quinn amp, I was also close to buying a Bruno, a Groove Tube Trio, a CAE 3 SE+ pre, but I couldnt play them anywear so I couldnt end up buying them. I know never Buy a Bone Picker. They are Point to Point but they suck balls, my friend got duped on the internet for a pedalboard amp from them.

I build my own amps at this point. I have built 2 exact copy of a 65 Blackface deluxe Reverb but instead of the Vibrato Circut I added in a Mid-range boost. I got the Specs From Brian Brown who is Trey Anastasio's Guitar Tech after Bob Bradshaw. Brian Brown didnt mod treys it was Moded by Bill Caruth, but Brian brown had pictures and amp setting when I was building mine. Brian now Works for Hard Truckers, The home of the Greatest Guitar cabs on the planet (at least for my style of music) and I can ask him questions when ever I am stuck

Re: How Many Try Amps.......

I realize that you are upset
and need to set the story straight
but please notice this thread and that post are exactly 7 years old

Re: How Many Try Amps.......

Im not upset I was down for a few years due to a car crash I just saw this the other day when pointed out by a friend. If you Google "Bonepicker pedal board amp" this is the first thread that comes up. This guy names off all this high end gear then says he builds his own amps and tries to trash my name. No I will not sit back and take it with a grain of salt.

Re: How Many Try Amps.......

Anytime someone gives a completely irrelevant description like "they suck balls", I immediately disregard all other opinions from that same person. Obviously if your amp sucks balls and amplifies your guitar signal, it is a pretty special amp and should be hung onto and possibly taken out to dinner and a show occasionally too.

Re: How Many Try Amps.......

I bought my Budda SD80 based on a long-standing desire to own one purely from clips I'd heard. No regrets. It's a killer amp. The same goes for my trusty old Splawn I've had for over a decade.

I've had misses too.. I snagged a Fuchs Viper that was one of the worst-sounding amps I've ever used. I was lucky to unload that thing. But overall I've had very good experiences with experiments like this with all manner of gear.

Edit: suckered by the zombie thread once again...

It depends. I've bought amps in person and always plugged something into them before I bought them. Other's I've bought new with a return policy, without trying them out, and wound up keeping them.

Re: How Many Try Amps.......

An irrelevant slam by someone who hasn't posted in 7 years remains irrelevant.

Wait! I just had a flash in my head... I might actually know who you are, We met at the spring fair in like 2005 or 2006ish... somewhere in that time frame . We had a long conversation about my Accuracy Arms Intl. AWM in .338 Lapua.

I dunno West is a pretty common surname in SE Idaho but something just rings a bell.

Re: How Many Try Amps.......

Sucking balls is a matter of opinion and can be neither proven nor disproven.

Re: How Many Try Amps.......

I got a Mesa Boogie from the advice of the original guitar player of Petra, Bob Hartman. I did't drive too far and was able to tell it worked but was not really able to rock it out until I got home...it was well worth the drive!

Edit: I also traded for my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe without trying it out...another excellent amp that was well worth it!

Re: How Many Try Amps.......

I just realized this thread dates back to my college days...I never look at the dates when I post so apologies for zombie threads advancement :chairshot

Welcome to the internet? I dunno if you've been online long but EVERYBODY who's successful has haters. Leo Fender, Les Paul, John Suhr, Doug Kauer, Paul Reed Smith, Jim Marshall, etc.

I'm flushing this one.
