Re: how much did you spend getting YOUR tone

Sorry, this is hijacking the original thread, but do you find that the 1x12 extension cab helps out with the HRDX? I have a HRDX and I find that the speaker doesnt really seem to handle the output too well, especiialy when I've got it turned up a bit at gigs. Rather than replacing the original speaker, I was thinking of buying an ext cab to run in parallel. Worthwhile ?
no problemo, I'm happy to answer
see, my problem was, well, the tone with the amps volume on like...near 2, is PERFECT, couldn't ask for a better tone. But for live situations, well, once it hits about 6, all the bass is gone, my pedal sounds weak, and well, shrill highs. But, I didn't wanna get rid of the stock speaker, cuz in the studio, I'll be recording most of the stuff with well, the volume at near 2. So i got an extension cab with that wonderful speaker for live situations.
but back to your question (sorry, i get carried away) yes, it would help. I don't run in parallel because i find that each speaker has its job, and, well, no room for improvement on either. If i'm correct, the stock speaker is an eminence legend 125 rated at 75 watts, but, if i'm correct on this also, its been pussed down to somewhere around 30-50 watts, i can't remember exactly. So if you're wanting the tone you're getting at mid-level volumes at higher ones, I'd try first researching to see if i'm correct about the lower wattage, and if i am, go get a real eminence legend 125 & put it in there, if that still doesn't work, get an extension cab with another & run them in parallel like you were saying, or get a 2x12 cab & put both in & plug it into the main speaker jack, which may or may not work better, i think the extension speaker jack is quite a bit quieter. Then, if you go with the 2x12 put the stock speaker back in for bedroom purposes. People at avatar are good people, let me or them know if you have any trouble with the cab, assuming you get one.
putting in some red-label groove tubes also helped me, later breakup
