How much does your main guitar weigh?

I'm curious to see what the "average" is.

My Fender Jaguar HH is 6.7 lbs, which I'll round up to 7.

round up or down where appropriate.

Re: How much does your main guitar weigh?

I'll weigh them all and give you an average - can't say fairer than that. You don't mind waiting until June do you? That's the next time I'll see half of them.

Re: How much does your main guitar weigh?

#1 is a swamp ash Esquire, which I am guessing is 7 pounds, maybe less, maybe more.
#2 is an '83 Norlin LP Custom, which weighs 12 or so.

Both of these may be being bumped out of the way by my new (to me) Explorer. I am guessing it is around 8 - 9 pounds.

The heaviest instrument I have, by far, is my '77 Music Man bass.

Weight is not an issue to me, as you can see. I play heavy guitars and light guitars.

Re: How much does your main guitar weigh?

The majority of them are around 9 pounds.

Re: How much does your main guitar weigh?

Gibson Les Paul Custom Lite. 6.5-7 lbs. No holes.

Re: How much does your main guitar weigh?

wow, I totally didn't expect this result.

My Ibanez is 7.5 lbs. So is my strat. I always guessed my strat was lighter for some reason. certainly felt lighter.

Re: How much does your main guitar weigh?

I have no idea, never weighed them.

Re: How much does your main guitar weigh?

Haven't weighed mine either but my warmoth VIP in mahogany/maple with all rosewood neck is a flippin tank.

Re: How much does your main guitar weigh?

I have a different main guitar every day..... so.... I have 2 that are light like 7 lbs... two that are like 10.5 lbs, and other 2 are right at 9 lbs

Re: How much does your main guitar weigh?

Haven't ever measured them but I can tell you this, she is heavy for a (Super)Strat, heavier than my Patriot really which however is ridiculously light for a LP.

Still, not typical LP heavy.

Re: How much does your main guitar weigh?

Don't really know. Don't particularly care. If an instrument is heavier than I am willing to tolerate for an hour at a stretch, I won't buy it.

My old 78/79 Precision is pretty darned heavy. The late Eighties Fender James Burton signature Telecaster that I once owned was heavier than any Les Paul that I have ever tried.

Re: How much does your main guitar weigh?

My number 1 Gibson Les Paul Studio Tribute 50's w/ humbuckers weighs in at 7 pounds 5 ounces

Re: How much does your main guitar weigh?

About 8.81 pounds? I really don't know, but if i keep payin' attention to it it's ****ing heavy. Compared to my Ibanez (which i read it weighs around 2kg) it's unbeliably more heavy.

Re: How much does your main guitar weigh?

Of the 11 Les Pauls I have, all but two of them weigh in between 8.9 and 9.2 lbs.; that includes solidbody Historics, two Supremes and an Elegant that are chambered, and two weight-relieved 1960 Classics with Plus tops. The other two are chambered Classic Antiques, at 7.9 and 8.2 lbs. The Classic Antiques almost feel too light, but they can really rock!

I haven't weighed most of my G&Ls, because weight typically isn't an issue for me with these guitars. But I have weighed two of them. My maple cap over mahogany ASAT Deluxe has the G&L Dual Fulcrum Vibrato and weighs in at 9.5 lbs! Heavier than any of my Pauls! I have one ash-bodied Legacy Special, with a beautiful birdseye maple neck and an ebony fingerboard, and it reads about 9.4 lbs. These are right about at my limit--I find anything over 9.5 to be too heavy--no 12 lb. Norlin-era Customs for me!

Most everything else I have, the MM Sabre IIs, the Ibanez Ghostriders, the 335 and clones are all manageable weights, so I'm guessing between 8 to 9 lbs., with some a little lighter.

A good strap, good ergonomic design and good balance go a long way in mitigating a heavy guitar.

I hope that helps.

Bill
