How much were Ace guitar straps in the 60's?

Since the 90's, the long out of business Ace straps started getting collectible and selling for big money. Other companies like Levy's and Souldier picked up where they left off with woven retro straps. Seeing new woven straps like Souldier selling for $60 made me wonder how much Ace straps retailed for back in the 60's. I realize everything's gotten more expensive since then, but wondered if any of you remember or know how much they sold for back then.

Souldier is not a great example to use as price comparisons.

Souldiers vintage line use real deal NOS ACE cloth from the 60's and 70's plus they are hand made in the USA...

Those 2 things drive the prices up but IMHO as a recent Souldier customer they are worth every penny!

Re: How much were Ace guitar straps in the 60's?

I agree. The Souldier straps are made better, mostly because of the leather ends. The old Ace straps had a caustic vinyl backing that could eat away at guitar finish as well as deteriorate. I didn't know they were using the same exact cloth.

I didn't start buying straps till the beginning of the 80's and hippie stuff was dead during that decade.

My guess is that the Ace straps retailed for $5, but I'm just assuming.

The Souldier straps still use vinyl backing (on the vintage series) but gone is the foam center that crumbles after a few years and causes so many issues.

The cloth...yep, same stuff. The lady that is the master mind behind Souldier found warehouses of the original Ace/Bobby Lee fabric and she bought it all!!!

I own one Souldier and have owned Ace straps in the past...no contest in terms of construction!!!

Wow I remember buying those things for a few bucks. I have a ton of leather, suede and various straps that people have given me as presents and random pickups I have found over the years. My favorite straps are my black nylon Levys that I buy for 10 bucks. They are easier to adjust on the fly than the leather straps and they hold the guitar around my neck. I dont see a $300 strap holding my guitar any better than my $10 Levy.

Groovy! Those were really expensive back then, like four or five dollars.

$499 or Best Offer.

A (relative) bargain at $349.

If I remember correctly, (I had a couple of them), they were $3.00 - $5.00. A 100x markup doesn't seem like much of a bargain to me.

LOL @ spending big money on old guitar straps.

Don't knock it. It's been found that the patterns of the stitching, as well as the microscopic gaps in the threading, in the vintage straps allow the wood in the guitar to vibrate more freely improving tone and increasing sustain. Today's fabrics have a lot of heavy metals in them also, which can cause pickup interference as well. You are much better going with a piece of hemp rope or a vintage strap... and hemp is just silly.

In that case I'll buy 3.

Bought two Souldier Seatbelt Straps and a belt for my wife when I was at the Dallas Guitar Show. GREAT looking straps!
