How`s the DiMarzio Super 3 pup?

Re: How`s the DiMarzio Super 3 pup?

Thick, hot, compressed, and middy. I like it in floyded superstrats, but I'm not too fond of it in Gibson style guitars, the Super D does much better in those scenarios.

As far as voicing, it IS 80's shred through a Marshall-y amp and the split tones are surprisingly good, good enough to do the "Sultans" thing when combined with a ~6k alnico V single in the mid position.

So pretty much like The Super Distortion with more mids?

Not really. Kind of like a Super D with less highs, much more compression, and a bump in the lows. Not quite as aggressive to my ear though. Makes legato and sweep picking a breeze though, what with all the output and compression.

No problem bro. If you don't mind me asking: what's that beastie going into?

Spot on. They key for me is that I loved it in a neutral-sounding guitar with a Floyd, but it was absolute overkill in my set-neck, fixed bridge Ibby. Thick and congested.

In the Floyd guitar, though, it was full and aggressive and very 80's.

Re: How`s the DiMarzio Super 3 pup?

Should rock. I'd stick to a 500k push/pull pot with that one. Pic when you're done, mang! :burnout:

Great idea! I was going with a 500K but didn`t think of a push/pull. Thanks again pal. I`m a couple weeks away but pics will definitely follow. :headbang:

Re: How`s the DiMarzio Super 3 pup?

I still have one that I like enough to keep. It's going in a HSS pickguard with a Cool Rails in the middle and a Hot Rails in the neck. I gotta have one set-up that goes over-the-top...

OMG we think EXACTLY the same thing about DiMarzio Super line! frtom now on I say only one of us has to respond to these. Just add a "Aceman says +1" to anything you say about these. I'll add Benjy says +1 to mine!

You gotta let it rip every once in awhile! :naughty:

LOL...

You know, I'm always lettin' it rip. I had some recordings with the Super 3 too, but I think they also died when my hard drive crashed.

Re: How`s the DiMarzio Super 3 pup?

Who, other than Phil Collen, uses one of those pups?

Everybody that plays an Ibanez 7 string with the stock Blaze or Blaze Custom humbuckers, because that´s what the bridge is modeled after.

On that note, I need to replace mine someday...
