How should I pack a Tele for Shipping?

I am selling my Fender Mexican Telecaster. I'm hoping to sell it locally on Craigslist but if I don't I will need to ship it. It doesn't have a case. What I have is a cardboard box from Guitar Center that another guitar came in. I was thinking that I would wrap the guitar in Bubble Wrap. I time with the small bubbles and then around that with the big bubbles. I would then put the guitar in the box and put packing peanuts all around it. Then I will tape the box up really well.

Can anyone let me know if this is the right was to do it , Or should I do this another way?

Also I was thinking that I would slacken the strings by about 4 turns. Should I do that or just ship the whole guitar with no strings on at all?

Thanks,
John

I've shipped basses in homemade cardboard boxes filled solid with newspaper and some extra cardboard supporting the neck. I left strings on, but slackened them a lot. Both basses, an amp, and a guitar shipped this way made it intact.

Teles are pretty solid instruments. I'd loosen the strings, but the way you described should be fine.

that is how an epi les paul was sent to me and it made it just fine.

I sold a semi hollow dearmond starfire and what i did was wrap the guitar in bubble wrap then stuff the box with newspaper real well and then i put that inside another box with come cardboard added to separate the boxes. best packing job i ever did.
