How to check for a blown speaker???

I'm kinda ashamed to admit this, but I don't really know how to check for a bad speaker, other than by sticking my head up to the cab and listening to it. Would the solution be as simple as using my DMM and checking for resistance continuity between the hot and common lugs; or am I way off base here? Someone please give me an education , thanks.

Doing what you asked works, if you think it's the voice coil that's busted. The cone could also be ripped off of the part that's got the voice coil and the magnet. BTW, resistance will be lower than impedance. Therefore say, an 8 ohm speaker might only read 6 ohms.
