How to liven up a black guitar?

Re: How to liven up a black guitar?

get somew really thin pinstripes

follow the outside contour of the body

bam

faux binding

That's the way to do it. Submitted for your approval, a Washy Dime proto for a run that never happened. It was just too...blah...with all the black hardware on the black body. 3 gold knobs, a $3.00 roll of pinstriping from Auto Zone, and a $5 screaming chicken off the 'bay:

I'd still like to strip nearly the whole thing and have it repainted but for right now, it's just a killer player.

take it apart, strip it, stain then apply some nitro to it. It will probably sound better as well.

If $3 worth of stickers from the supermarket can't cheer me up, nothing can.

That sounds like a lot of work. I think I'll just flick bottle caps at it until it all chips off.

Yeah, it's a shame it didn't work out. Imports though they were, the Boogerstreet and Funky Munky post-death 333s were fantastic. The 2nd gen, like that one, were spec'd out (measurements, anyway) to the original Dime3s. None of that weird 333 fukkery going on. I had an earlier Slime and while it was nice, it didn't look right. They got the measurements perfect with the 2nd gens-neck, body, all of it-but by then the Dime wave was beginning to fizzle out.

I second The Living Dead's dayglo/neon knobs, pickups and switch tip suggestion. These days, you can even get day-glo strings. Things sure have come a long way since the 80's.

Or, I'd go the other way and put a black trem and black knobs on it. Going all black looks cool.

I'd never put stickers on a guitar.

I also second the posts pointing out that if it plays and sounds great, don't worry too much about it. I record guitars in my home studio. No one knows or cares what they look like. In the end, the important thing is the music we make with them.

It's evident that this guitar will never make you happy. Just rid yourself of the frustration and get rid of it. Send it to me...I'll even pay for the shipping.
