How to ship a guitar and/or case

I am going to be shipping a hardshell case and possibly a guitar inside of it. I've never even thought about how to go about doing it. What do you guys do when you ship? Where do you get boxes? or should I just take it to one of those shipping stores?

I know this is a simple thing to do, but I am at a loss......

Go to your local music shop and check out the empty boxes they have. Shops just throw them away, so they don't mind giving them either. Make sure the guitar is secured with bubble wrap inside the case as well. Fill the box with packing peanuts or lots of packing paper. INSURE and ship.

The idea is to pack so that you feel nothing move inside the box when you shake it.

why did i KNOW what you were going to post ahahahaha

for the HSC, i dont know. but for guitar only, wrap it in bubble wrap. lots of bubble wrap (if it takes you less than 5 minutes wrapping, you didnt wrap enough) take a shipping case for the guitar, put it in (no, it probably wont fit inside the HSC at this point, but you are welcome to try.)
put the trem bar & any other sharp-er objects into separate bubble wraps and duct tape it on the back of the neck (trem bar) or on the outside of the case - be sure to tell the one who you are going to send it to, where you put it. once you start unwrapping it is easy to get lost.)
now, once the guitar is inside the case, fill .. no, PACK the case with air bags and those small foam pieces.
if you have a HSC, wrap it in bubble wrap and then put it into a slightly bigger box, which you fill with foam. you can ship it like that.
if you dont, it is best you take a big-er box.. like a bike box, fill her up to half with air bags and foam then put the guitar case/box in it and fill the remaining space.
be sure that you tape the edges off VERY securely!!

ship it. you will more than likely have to pay extra if the box is HUGE, but by that point it can be dropped off a plane without a parachute and still arrive undamaged.

last point to ponder, if it takes the dude getting this, less than 15 minutes to unwrap the guitar (that means, cutting the bubble wrap off the thing with an x-acto knife .. yea tim, i cheated LOL)

YOU DIDNT WRAP IT ENOUGH!!!!!!!!

Dan Erlewine says to detune the strings until they're slack, which is supposed to reduce the neck breaking in the event of a fall/drop.

You only want to detune them a step or so. You still want slight tension.
