How well do new Marshalls do the old Marshall thing?

Re: How well do new Marshalls do the old Marshall thing?

If the TSL is a '99-'04 Mustang, did Marshall ever make the equivalent of an '85 Mustang? Is there some kind of live engine on the Internet that will convert between cars and guitar amps? And does it have a widget I can put on my desktop, or mobile apps?

You're going by performance, reputation, quality and not timeline, right?

Both? LOL

For what it's worth, I learned how to drive stick on a four-eye Fox Body Mustang that put 425hp to the rear wheels. There's performance hidden in them. LOL

I didn't realize the horses went up so high on those. Okay, then, what's the amp equivalent of an International Harvester Scout?

Well, not from the factory. LOL They're great modding platforms, though.

That I don't know. Would have to think about it.

You're the first person on here that's talked about Trinity. I need another amp like a hole in the head, but I've been watching this one on LA Craigslist.

Same model I have, except I don't have the VRM. Sounds like the previous owner had the kit from Trinity, as they do for all their amp models (Trinity built mine). I really like mine, although I haven't gigged out with it yet. Not anticipating any issues there, though. I have the head going into two Avatar 2x10 cabs loaded with Greenback 10s.

I should mention that it was our own Crusty P that turned me on to Trinity.

FWIW- I owned a 68 Mustang wuth a 428 Cobra Jet in t, when I was a late teen. I would equate the TSL to the 4 Cyl turbo Mustangs and Capris, circa early 1980s. Trying very hard to be Mustang, but strangled by wimpy poor technology.

That 68 was like an 800 2203, Mid 70s JMP 2203, and 72 MF 1959 all wrapped up in one.

Re: How well do new Marshalls do the old Marshall thing?

The 85 GT still had much in common with a 65 mustang except looks. The 302 V8 is essentially the same thing as the 289 V8. In 85 it was still a Holley four barrel carburator. Modern Fuel Injection didn't come until 86. The 85 302 had a couple upgrades over the 289 in a roller cam and of course a few more cubic inches. The 80's Fox Mustang is the most popular hotrod car in the world today. The 302 v8 is easy and cheap to mod and build massive horsepower with. Go to any drag strip anywhere in North America on any sat night and you will see dozens and dozens of them rumbling around. They range from stock 225 Hp to over 1,000 HP street driven. My 85 has about 400hp.

I think my Vox ac50 head does the Marshall thing better than new Marshall's do the Marshall thing.

I think this thread went WAY off topic.

The models on my Fender Mustangs agree. The Vox and Plexi models sound more alike than the Plexi versus the JCM 800.

Yeah I get you. My head is a 2x EL34, 4x 12ax7 amplifier. With a Marshall cab, Redcoat speakers... It doesn't get any more British.

Interesting to revisit this somewhat zombyish thread. While hanging out in Waterworld over the weekend, I joined MarshallForum.com. Most of those guys love the DSL40C, and say its clean channel in crunch mode nails the JCM-era tones. I think it might might be what I'm looking for, though I'll probably use it as a single-channel amp, ignoring the high gain channel and the digital reverb.

Rich, I got a bug to build an amp and I'm thinking 18W w/Greenback. Am I way off base in thinking that this would give a pretty Marshally vibe at non ear splitting volumes? (Not looking to replicate a Plexi exactly or a Bluesbreaker exactly, just that general vibe with a treble booster and Fuzz Face) Would you do the build again?
