Re: HSS

Phase won't make a single coil, your neck, go dead. Something is jacked up. Check your joints and diagram and make sure everything is sound. If you need more help, let us know what switch and diagram you're using.

Re: HSS

Right, but pickups being out of phase will only create a weak sound on the in between position. It won't affect position 1 or 5. Something besides phase is wrong.

Re: HSS

:barf: Oh nooo. Just make sure your diagram is right. Then do your best on the soldering and it'll work out eventually.

Re: HSS

Yes! Pictures (and maybe a pic of the diagram you are working from) are always the first step for diagnosing problems like this.

Re: HSS

Looks like a good diagram. Check to see if a ground wire is making contact with an exposed signal wire or the terminals. That's usually the first thing that goes wrong when trouble shooting. The next thing to check would be for faulty solder joints. Oh yeah. The switch could be broken. That's happened to me before. If you're tugging on all your solder joints and they're all good, and nothing is grounding out when you put your pickguard back on, the switch could be broken.

Oh yeah! It's also possible that on your carvin switch, the two sides are jumped somehow. You could try doing it without the auto split - remove the red and white wires and the ground wire from the switch and see if that works. You might need a new switch.
