Humbucker recommendation for dark/mid heavy Les Paul

Re: Humbucker recommendation for dark/mid heavy Les Paul

While it is a hotter pickup, don't dis-count the C5 as well. I personally don't think it is as hot sounding as it reads on a meter, plus it's rather mid scooped.

Howdy,

SnakeAces, you are correct about the '59 neck being bassy, or "boomy" as I prefer to say. At a minimum, the '59 would appear to be a logical choice in the bridge for brightening up a "dark" Les Paul. Soon I aim to replace the ultra-noisy P90s in my Les Paul Special with a '59 set I have laying around the house.

I do have an Alnico II pro bridge around here, that i got for another guitar i have. Maybe its worth trying in the Standard Faded?
yep put it in...if you do a mag swap to A5 then you will have turned it into a jazz...that way you can try both pickups for the price of one (plus one magnet)!
Also...check your pots and wiring...500k pots will give you a bit more treble than the 300k pots that gibson used stock for many years. If you dont already have 500k pots, then id recommend replacing all of them before shelling out too many dollars on new pickups.

Seths?

If you want hotter, maybe a C5 for the bridge?

If you like your midrange but want that brightness on tap, a '59/C hybrid?
