Humbucker to single coil without push/pull function

Hey! I want to turn my neck humbucker into a single coil. The thing is that I want to make the neck pickup to a single coil permanently. I don’t want to have any push/ pull function. Does anybody know how to make my wish come true?:) . My humbucker has four conductors. thanks in advance!:)

go to http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/ and peek around. bookmark it and make it your friend.

but the short version is to join the red and white and make that your hot (for the slug coil). the green and bare will still be your ground. the black gets taped/sealed off and is not used.

for the screw coil, your green and black are hot. the white and bare are ground. and the red is not used.

actually you can just use the black as ground and white as hot for the stud coil or green as start and black as hot for the screw coil.

dont think theres a reason to do the series link oin this case

No soldering, no playing with wires, just that easy, & you still get the hum cancelling effect
You might want to skip forward to about 7 mins in, this guy likes the sound of his own voice

YES!!!

remove the screw pole pieces. very convincing single coil sounds, with hum canceling

Re: Humbucker to single coil without push/pull function

Yeah 925SS beat me to it. The guy is an elitest jerk but he is right, very easy and helpful. I've considered doing it to my jazz neck pickup.

Re: Humbucker to single coil without push/pull function

My preferred way is spin-a-split. It turns the tone pot into a second volume pot, but for one coil only. That lets you dial in anything from full HB to single coil, and all the great unbalanced coils sounds in between (one of the things that made 1950's PAF's sound so good).

Everything mentioned will work, but this is a bad idea. In both cases you're leaving an unused coil hanging out acting as a "noise" antenna. There's no need to do that. Either use one coil or the other as others have said. Or run parallel. That way you keep humbucking. ;)

Re: Humbucker to single coil without push/pull function

I agree on the parallel, but the dude asked for a single coil, so I was working with the hand I was dealt. lol!

My lack of knowledge on the wiring it due to being used to getting a single as a switchable option. Seeing the other options make sense and I've also leaned something new.

Hey guys! Thanks for all the replies! All of them sounds like a good solution:). I will try all of them and see which one of them suits me the most. I have just one question regarding the removal of the screw pole pieces. I'm afraid that if I remove the screw pole pieces that I will damage the pickup somehow. what are the risks and how do protect the now open holes on the pickup from dirt and dust? Sticky tape maybe?:)

Re: Humbucker to single coil without push/pull function

A piece of scotch tape should work well, if you're not beating on it with the pic lol
You could try carefully filling with melted wax, but the tape seems easier, & less risky
Removing the screws won't damage the pup, so there's no real risk:scratchch

Okey but will this have the "noise" antenna effect that is mention by ArtieToo?
