Dont no why, they just seem to make it sound more.... dirty..... it even works with acoustics aswell, ive own a national style N an i sold it cause it didnt sound as good or "real" as on a cheap ass all laminated acoustic. but i geuss it depends on what type of slide you want to play, i like the real old style stuff, robert johnson etc. An thos old players didnt use expensive guitars, so i geuss it kinda translates over, cheap pick ups= cheap dirty sound.. kinda like they had... if you want a more smooth, glassy sound like Duane Allman they probably a '59 or pearly gates, would be more suited...
gripweed said:Actually I'd really like a nasty hound dog taylor type of sound, but no-one seems to know of a pickup that does that...

and then put them in a strat or similar. Bludave has a really cool little Harmony he should share somepictures of that sounded great for slide, similar type of sound to my ears.
I like high powered singles like the QP and P-90s for slide but the A2P is a killer as well. It really sings!
tone4days said:well, i don't play slide very well ... but i like to listen to duane allman ... i am guessing something like a 59 or a seth would get the job done to start to approximate tone like his ...
... well, that and a coricidin (sp?) bottle
cheers

Jeffrec said:I agree, a '59 would be closest to what Duane used in his '64 SG. I used to use a Corcidan bottle back when I played the Dunae stuff in bands, but actually I think you get better tone with a thicker piece of glass. Also, use heavier guage strings.
