Re: hwy 1 for an epi lp black beauty

I favour LP type guitars over Strats but I would have thought the Highway has a higher value (it would over here) and I doubt I'd swap unless it's a great guitar and he adds some cash.

Re: hwy 1 for an epi lp black beauty

IMO, unless you get cash in addition to the Epi, this is a lousy exchange. (Quite a lot of cash.)

Welcome to the forum, BTW.

Re: hwy 1 for an epi lp black beauty

there's no way i'd ever trade an american made strat for an overseas epi. now, if it were some other higher quality overseas guitar like a neck-thru BC rich or schecter, that's a different story.

thanks for the input guys. the epi retail for $725 & the hwy 1 is $700.

the difference is cost of all the upgrades ive put in her. almost $300.
i was really considering it but thank god i decided to delay my decision.

I disagree. IMO, the American-made Fender H1 Stratocaster is a fundamentally better electric guitar - even in standard trim.

NOTE: I am not American. I do not live in the USA. I have no patriotic stance to adopt over domestic versus import. The simple fact is that the materials in the Fender are of higher quality than those in the Epiphone.

Whether a Stratocaster is the right electric guitar for your needs is a separate question.

EDIT: If you had posted that the Epiphone was loaded with professional quality replacement pickups and control parts, the proposed exchange might have seemed less unfavourable.

Re: hwy 1 for an epi lp black beauty

I'm a Les Paul guy, but that 3 pick up all black custom does nothing for me.

I'd opt for the Fender.

Re: hwy 1 for an epi lp black beauty

Whichever one you like better, man!

Dollar value is nigh irrelevant in similar-value trades.

Re: hwy 1 for an epi lp black beauty

Even if they're close in price, I'm pretty sure the Strat will be a much better guitar than the Epi. Decent quality componants and American craftsmanship and quality control go a long way in building guitars.

But I6 has a very valid point. Those are two very different guitars, so if the Les Paul sounds and feels closer to what you want then go for it. I wouldn't but it's not my choice so meh.

Alternatively, decide you want a Les Paul and save up and get one as well as the Strat. Rock will ensue. :beerchug:

Re: hwy 1 for an epi lp black beauty

thanks for the feedback guys. im keeping my hwy 1. im gonna start saving to buy the black beauty also.
doubt it lasts that long, but there will always be another one i want also.

Re: hwy 1 for an epi lp black beauty

Highway 1 guitars are way cooler than Epiphone guitars

A Hwy 1 may cost more, but 'cool' is in the eye, and ear, of the beholder. I've heard so many tinny and shrill Strats over the years that any 'cool factor' has long since vanished with them (my ears still hurt). In the right hands they can sound great, but they're ain't enough 'right hands' to go around.

Re: hwy 1 for an epi lp black beauty

^ yeah yeah yeah we know

fact is, Highway 1 Fenders are better

'Better' is subjective, not fact. I play and sound much better with an Epi LP. It's a matter of tone and feel, and Fenders don't have what I need. If the OP wants some of that distinctive LP vibe, then he knows what direction to go in.

Re: hwy 1 for an epi lp black beauty

Les Pauls are better than Strats! So I wouldn't worry about the money value unless you are planning on selling the guitar in the near future.
Get the Les Paul! :)

Um, no. Not in this case. I know, I know, every guitar is a unique and beautiful snowflake, there's gems in every pile of coal, there's a beautiful instrument in every pile of firewood, there's a rose in every pile of manure, yadda, yadda.

Your favourite type of guitar is irrelevant. Simple fact is this; an American built guitar is way, way, way more likely to be a QUALITY and well put together instrument than an Asian Epi. Sad but true. Sorry.

Blueman's point about comfort leading to better playing is solid, though it's not really a factor here in my opinion. He's owned the Strat for some time so we can safely assume he likes it and has grown comfortable with it.

Anyway, this is all irrelevant. Op already made his decision. Arguing about it now is probably even more pointless than it was when he was undecided.

Re: hwy 1 for an epi lp black beauty

Seriously? You can say NO to that???? Tue - it needs black speed knobs, but so what?

Honestly, I'd say they are the same guitar relatively speaking. However - epi pups - meh. The strat with Duncans has got to be the better sounding guitar if you like the general strat tone.

It's a call for your hands/ears bro.
