Alright I'll keep it quick cause im dying of exitement!!!!

Ok I need to give u a little backround first:

My friend (who plays al ittle guitar) foudn this pedal in his shed (his dad used to play) and asked if he could use it, his dad said "sure"...He brought it to shcool and its a vintage ibanez flanger!!! (70's-80's)m, now instead of telling him its snot worth much and **** i drooled over it lol DAM ME!!. SOO he also tells me (month or two ago) that his dad has a "big" amp in his shed (which we foudn out was head and cab because one had no speakers in it and the big part had speakers in it. So I was saying "imagine if it was a marshall?". Well I ask him today and......he said its a marshall!! HOLY ****!!! There could be a vintage Marshall i na SHED 5 min away from my house! I wasnt playing dumb this time...

So I'm like "ooo.. thats cool ,too bad it was a newer one" and told him how the newer ones are better and of course hebelives me because everyone thinks new is better. He also says next time hes at his dads (his rents juts split up) hee'll show me and said it still works. Well his dad doesnt play anymore so I'm REALLY excited about this, perhaps I cna rip him off and get a awsome marshall for low price?

Jump on that Marshall man, haha. But don't rip off a friend.

Hey bud,

Cool story???

I'm glad you have this potential opportunity, but I have to ask: What kind of a friend lies to a guy by telling him "newer is better" with the hopes of ripping him off? Not cool.

I think you have a choice to make: friendship or a Marshall. I can already hear the jesting responses of "I'd take a Marshall over a friend any day of the week" but really think about this.

Sorry but somebody's got to be your conscience. Plus, if his dad ever found out what he actually gave up he might come running after you with an axe -- and by "axe" I don't mean "guitar," I mean "that thing Jack Torrence used in 'The Shining.'"

But then maybe you were joking the whole time about actually wanting to rip off your friend, in which case please disregard this entire email and return to your freak-out.

The discovery of the amp is probably a cool story, but don't ruin it by ripping off a friend.

Don't get too excited. Just because your friend is easily conned doesn't mean his dad will be.

If a story sounds to good to be true it usually is to good to be true...though not always.

However, I have a feeling this one is to good to be true.

talk to his dad and see if he's willing to sell it. if he doesnt use it and would like to see it being used again, and isnt in need of money, i believe he'll offer it at a reasonable price. if not. tough luck, but i wouldnt rip off a friend, cos that would hurt the friendship and his dad might come after you both

Who wants to come with me on a trip to Lyn, Ontario to check out this amp? :)

Yep, even if you fooled your friend, odds are your friend's father knows what it's worth. If he really is a good friend, you may want to think about being honest and seeing if his father can cut a deal for you (since it doesn't seem like he's using it anymore).

I don't think someone owning such an amp will believe it's worth nothing, and then he'll ask you why you're interested in it, since it's worth nothing?

^^^^ Words of wisdom. Honesty is the best way to go in this situation. You could end up with a killer amp and not have a somewhat guilty conscience.

Why is it sitting in a shed?

Yeah don't try and rip him off, but play the role of the "uninterested bidder" as I call it at auctions. Don't show any emotion either way... dont show you'd kill to have it and dont make it seem you dont really want it. Make it seem like you;d like to have it. A good way to try and get it is make it seem like theres something in it for your friend. Tell him you'll pay his dad for the amp if he cuts you a deal, and tell him "if your dad cuts me a deal, I'll get you a new pickup". A 50 dollar pickup is nothing in comparison with a vintage Marshall, and that kind of incentive may get him to get his father to cut you a deal... all without having to rip him off. You're all winners in the end! :) He gets a new pickup, you get a marshall, his dad gets some extra booze money.

That still strikes me as a slightly manipulative thing to do to a friend.

Re: I AM FREKAING OUT RIGHT NOW (cool story)

i think it'd be classic if this kid tries to rip off the friend and father only to get it home and find it needs major work due to having been sitting out in the candian weather for all these years .... maybe some critters had taken up residence in the cab or head ... beat up tubes and caps ... plenty of opportunities for a kharma boomerang

i say do the right thing and have everyone be treated fairly

good luck
