I decided that today is a NGD

I decided that today was a NGD. I picked up this MIM Tele at the Best Buy clearance sale in November with the intention of flipping it. Today I decided that I can't build one of this quality at the price I got it at. Also, any profit would be meager. So I'm keeping it. I took a look at the electronics today. I was shocked to find 50's style wiring with 250k CTS pots. I pulled the stock ceramic pickups and put in a set of Wilde (Bill Lawrence) pickups that I had laying around. I also swapped the bridge for a Wilkinson bridge with brass saddles. I really prefer 3 saddle bridges on Teles. One of the pics below has a flash. The other has no flash.

My first tele ever, 12 or so years ago was one that looked just like this. Very nice.

Nice.

I'm interested in hearing all about that bridge pickup, as I am really considering one for my current build project. It's an L48, right?

Re: I decided that today is a NGD

Yes, it's a L48. It's clear and very balanced. The 250k pots that I'm using take away that ice pick through the ear sound. Clear highs with decent lows. The neck pickup is a L-280. It works well with the L48.

Thanks for the mini review.

Are you playing through tube or solid state, high wattage or low wattage?

Re: I decided that today is a NGD

The only thing worth buying from Fender nowadays are Mexi-teles/strats and American Vintage.

So I'd say you scored big time. Vintage saddles FTW. I just bought a Schecter PT not long ago and it has since made me a tele convert as well. Congrats.

New Tele's are cool.

Btw, you do have something between that finish and all that hardware, right? :omg:

That color is Midnight Wine. I had a 1994 MIA Strat in the same color before it was offered on MIM models.

I've owned 3 Teles over the years and sold them all. Just not completely my thing. But I do miss the 1991 American Standard I had. Great sounding Tele. The neck profile was wonky though.
