I don't chase VH tone

Re: I don't chase VH tone

Really? I mean... I don't think a guitar track has to absolutely suck ass on it's own just to punch through. There's plenty of songs where the guitar will play by itself for a bar or two before the band comes crashing in and it's not like anyone says "wait a minute, that's secretly terrible!" Some guitar players are really good at selecting a tone, some aren't. Some engineers are really good at making a guitar sound fit in while still sounding mighty and some do all kinds of weird things to it to try and make it work.

Most often, when the guitar plays alone for a bit, the eq is changed for that section. Perhaps the low freq is bumped back up a few dB. There is quite a bit that goes into the recordings.

Pete Thorn from 4-5 years ago. He talks about gear basics shortly after the Eruption demonstration:

Interestingly, while he is using a 5150 III and a PAF style pickup in this vid, with his newer Suhr amp, he just cranks it all to "10" and achieves the same thing with a DiMarzio Super Distortion!

And, Ed, you're right...this guy's got the fingers!

Clint i am a huge fan of this guy! have you heard his CD "guitar nerd"? outstanding disc! here is a track from it, great friggin groove player!

when i grow up i wanna play just like pete thorn!:approve:

IMHO he has way more feel than all these "shred" dudes on you tubes that are really fast but nothing else!

Ed: PeteThornmancrushologist?

Really good player, I agree - love his gear demos too. Good brown tone goes without saying.

No not a crush at all, get your homo tendencies in check bro!:nana: LOL!
but it is very refreshing to hear a player who can do more than a zillion notes per second and sound like a hive of pissed off bee's:smokin:
