Luke's brother in law is going to be building a Jackson style Warmoth guitar soon and decided to go amp shopping while he's wating on the parts. Since he'll be getting the new Dave Mustaine pups, we thought my Jackson would be the best for him to try out the amps with. At the last place we went to he tried a XXX combo and while I was waiting, I started looking over the Peavey JSX that they've had in there for a couple of months. I had been wanting to try it out, but I never had either of my guitars with me when I was in. I figured this was the perfect time, so I plugged it in after he was done with the XXX.
Luke had tried one before so I got him to talk me through some of the features (the salesman was busy getting a price for the XXX) and I jammed around on it for five minutes or so. That amp has some serious mojo. I liked all three channels very well, but the crunch channel really hooked me. They had in on one of their old Peavey cabs, so I'm kind of interested to hear it through the JSX speakers.
The thing that worries me is portability since I live in an upstairs apartment (I guess there's some noise issues, too
) and I drive a Cavalier. A 4x12 cab is pretty much out of the question. The 2x12 combo is coming out soon and since it has the same circuitry it's a definite option, but we all know how heavy those are. What do y'all think would be a good way for me to go? A 2x12, a pair of 2x12s, combo? Also, has anyone had more experience with one of them other than just a few minutes at a guitar store?
I also played the Peavey Penta while I was at it. Not a bad amp, but not a particularly good amp, IMHO. The five different settings were kind of cool, but it didn't really excell at any of them.
