Finally got some money saved up from gigs. I play classic rock to metal. What would you recommend me? I hope to have one by saturday for our show.

I think the easiest answer, to cover Classic Rock to Metal, for less than $600, if you have to pick it up Friday, would be a humbucker Epi Les Paul.

There're probably a lot of good choices though.

Re: I have $600 to spend on a guitar.

Here's what I do: Get a used set neck Epi LP ($300+) or SG ($200+) online in excellent condition. Put in a pair of SD's, DiMarzio's, or Gibsons (about $100 for a used pair, more if new). For $300 to 400, you have a guitar that sounds so much like a Gibson, VERY few people could tell it apart on sound. Spend more if you want, but you don't need to.

OR........If you go the SG route, get two G-400's, and put hot ceramic magnets PU's in one for metal songs (Custom, DD, Dual Sound, 496R/500T, etc) and alnico mag PU's in the other (JazzN/C5 or a pair of '59's) for classic rock. You can do this for about $600 total and have two great sounding guitars. The ultimate versatility.

Get a Gibson & you may want to replace the PU's, like SO many guys do, and your costs go over budget.

thanks guys. I'm leaning towards that faded Gibson V, but just wondered what you guys would pick if there were other choices.

Schecter lady Luck. Totally sexy guitar, literaly. Or go for a mexi strat, or just a schecter c1 or something. Lots of good guitars out there, i would steer away from epi pauls though... over rated IMO. They are cool, but a schecter at the same price is nicer quality

I would get this and take the other 100 bucks and get an invader or distortion.

I was thinking Schecter, too. Also look at some of the Godin line. They have gotten more pricey lately but the have some very nice guitars. Cut out in Canada, built in America.

And don't forget to check your local Craig's list. Let someone else take the hit on the new guitar.

Re: I have $600 to spend on a guitar.

$600 range, I'd say a Schecter C1 as well.

Other thoughts are.
ESP/LTD H500 with Duncans.
BC Rich Mockingbird special or special x.

Re: I have $600 to spend on a guitar.

Look for a MIJ Greco, Burny, Tokai, or Orville LP on ebay, but you probably won't have it for the weekend.

Carvin kit.

Best thing you're going to ever be able to get for less than $1000...

The Ibanez SZ 320 does look great and the Schecter C1 too, but I already have both of those brands. I also don't like fenders either, but a new Ibanez or Schecter does sound pretty tempting.
