I have $600 to spend on a guitar.

Re: I have $600 to spend on a guitar.

GC can get you a PRS SE Singlecut tomorrow for possibly $600 out the door.
I think it's probably the best made humbucking guitar with the best wood for $600 new.
I think it also comes in transblack flame.

+1 for the godin lg humb.

I have one, and for the price they are probably the best all around guitar I have found.

Re: I have $600 to spend on a guitar.

Dude, just get a $549 PRS SE (single or double cutaway, with/ without trem) and you'll be able to play ANYTHING as well as have a guitar that looks and plays like $1200!!

Re: I have $600 to spend on a guitar.

I'd have to say schecter as well, I have a few of them and they are an awesome quality guitar for the money and sound great and I used to play strats and ibanez, not anymore! Plus the set neck. Most of the c-1s already have the hb-102 set in them which are the hotter versions of the JB/59 combo and there's usually a coil tap on the bridge pickup too for those songs that need that sound.

Go to GC and sit down with a c-1, comfortable guitars.

Good Luck in your search.

Re: I have $600 to spend on a guitar.

+1 big time on the '72 deluxe tele!!!!

It's been my favorite guitar for a long time

a strat would work as well, but if you're used to playing with HB's it takes some getting used to.

Re: I have $600 to spend on a guitar.

I don't think you can recommend a guitar with a bridge without per-string intonation sliders. With high gain playing that's just not going to come out right.

My personal recommendation would be to check on the ESP Les Paul lookalikes, like the EC-400.

Re: I have $600 to spend on a guitar.

PRS SE Singlecut it is, I've been wanting a PRS forever now. Heard nothing but good things about them. Now I just need to see if any local music stores have them within a 100 mile radius and is not over priced. Which being out in the boondocks, they probably are, but it's worth a shot.

Re: I have $600 to spend on a guitar.

The PRS Se guitars are good, but I actually prefer the godins. The godins have a thinner finish and a flatter fingerboard. It comes down to personal preference.

I don't know how far you are from Lincoln, NE. but their Guitar Center can do an interstore transfer, pulling a Singlecut SE in your choice of color from another store, or even shipping it, if you can't get there.

You may not have time to get it before the weekend, but there's a lot of online stores selling them. That flamey darkburst looks great in person. I picked up a few of those at GC, and was amazed at how nice they were for under $600.

The PRS Singlecut is a whopping $2800, and they certainly aren't $2200 nicer than the Singlecut SE. They play about the same.

How close are you to Lincoln Nebraska? I was told that Dietze carries PRS.

They also seem to be in Omaha and Bellevue Nebraska.

Re: I have $600 to spend on a guitar.

You'd do really well with an SE singlecut. Sounds big and the neck, although thick, is very playable. But keep in mind, she comes with PRS pickups. Duncans will cost you more $$ in the long run.

I nearly bought a singlecut, but the pickup situation was a deciding factor. If you can't find a PRS then I'd highly reccomend an EC-400vf. Thicker body, duncans, tune-o-matic bridge, and grover tuners.

Ill be definatly looking into that right in the morning, make a few calls and see if they have any. I am approximately, 111.12 miles away from Lincoln.

Ill defiantely be calling GC as well, but since MF I hate, corporate b.s., but its worth a shot.

I say look into some Schecters as well.

Definatly bro, I have one of the first Schecter Omen 6 diamond series in it's class. It still plays smooth, and was my first guitar I have ever owned, matter of fact, I still play it everyday. I don't know what it is, but I love the feel of it, the tonal range, and how nice it looks, it's the guitar that has helped me from day one and I love it. So yeah, another Schecter is defianitly on my top 3.

Re: I have $600 to spend on a guitar.

I say go for a midrange schecter, they wont need mods to sound and play good, compared to a singlecut se which will need a pup swap at the least. The lady luck is one *****in guitar, The stock pups are just fine for rockin out. Maybe even check out an epiphone casino p-90. they have a ****in great sound.

Re: I have $600 to spend on a guitar.

Cant you find for that money a sexy 80s fernandez MIJ that will give a run for the many to any MIA strat ?

Re: I have $600 to spend on a guitar.

If I were you I'd look into a used LP Vintage Mahogany in your area on Craigslist. You could probably pick one up for around 550-600ish. They are great for the money. :)

Re: I have $600 to spend on a guitar.

Finally got some money saved up from gigs. I play classic rock to metal. What would you recommend me? I hope to have one by saturday for our show.

Try a Fender Showmaster HH into a Marshall and tell me if you think it can do metal. I honestly think it might be right up your alley, and might be cheap enough too, depending on where you get it. If not, a Yamaha AES620, Guitar Player's pick that one year, has a JB bridge, so it should be able to do metal just fine for your needs. I'd recommend that. There's also the Schecter C-1 Blackjack, which has a JB bridge as well....
