EMGs are actually pretty easy to install... I say give it a shot yourself. Their diagrams are very straight forward, and you don't have to worry about any coil-splitting, phase switching, etc...

Yeah, it's not EQ'd the same but it's at least as tight and as aggressive and clear IMO.

Guys.... i had an evolution... i agree with all that was said... Unless for EXTREME METAL... it didn´t work very well....i don´t know the name of the picking technique in english, and in portuguese, we havea lot of alternative names to it but....it seems it lack DIRTYNESS , one of the main positive aspects that makes black/death metal styles very atractive without sounding muddy or things like that.
I´ll trying to explain the technique...
is when you play, with your left hand a sequence of 1,2,3 notes and with the RIGHT hand, you keep picking as fast as possible to make that continuous playing sound... like, something like your hand are a machine that never stops.
Something like the initial riff of SLAYER´S BLACK MAGICK.

it didn´t works very well, it lackdirtyness. ahahahahah i gues that is the only thing that the pickup is not made for. the rest it is an awesome pickup. i liked it A LOT.
but i guess it has too much definition for the mentioned extreme metal technique
ASK lucid Interval .... he was a different opinion on that.
and he has the evolution

Im new here and don't want to cause too many waves but why are we talking about EMG's on a Seymour Duncan forum? WFD, you say you play extreme metal and looking into active pups? Why arent you asking about the BEST active pups made and thats the Duncan Livewires. I have owned a couple sets of these for almost 20 years now and have never even once thought to look at EMG's again.
Someone earlier mentioned using 18v to run EMG's, that whole mod came about because of how the Livewires are run. Livewires are the quintecential Metal active pickup.

i shouldinstall a Livewire... YES, but what about the neck pickup? i can´t use a live wire heavy metal in the neck, ahahahah it will blow up everything, including my lead tones.
ahaahahahahh
and a classic live wire has too much REDUCED Mids. Q:/

Well check out the Livewire set. Not sure if Duncan still makes the neck livewire. Both pups have mid for days. The livewire metal neck almost has a bit too much IMO. I rarely use it unless doing blues type stuff.

As for Darkthrone, Yeah I like them but was using this SN long before that lp came out by them. When is Sarcofago and Vulcano going to release some new material?

From your preference It sounds like the 85/85 are in order. Bjorn from In Flames uses that combo.... Shadows fall dudes play the 85 in the bridge for the mids....and Killswitch. I think Matt Bachand is listed as using a 60/81 now Bridge neck. I like mids myself, and am a shredder so I would go with the 85/85. On Duncans side there is the Pearly gates, this pickup has the mids right....anybody?
