I know this has been asked before - ohm question

So if I have a 16-ohm head and an 8-ohm cab what are my options. And is there a way to wire up four 8-ohm speakers for 16 ohms?

That's a tough one.

If you have two output jacks, you cold do two 16 ohm pairs

Re: I know this has been asked before - ohm question

That's like trying to wire up 4 16ohm for 8.

Limited options:
1) Use the mismatch. Probably no harm, but it's best to follow the mfg's recommendations....what do they advise?
2) Two speakers only in series ==>16 ohms
3) Buy one of THESE. It's less $$$ than 4 new speakers.

Re: I know this has been asked before - ohm question

what is the head in question?

There are two 16 ohm outputs on the amp what are you suggesting?

Wire the cabinet for stereo, Viz: two pairs of 8 ohms in series . MY quad box is wired similarly to that plus a mono option for the lot @ 8 ohms.[center jack ]

Here's a marshal setup.

Two pairs in parallel? That won't give you 16 ohms total.

Right. This thread had me confused at first, until the following clarification was made (which must have been while I was typing my first response).

So the initial post stating the amp was 16 ohms was misleading. It obviously is 8 ohm (via 2 parallel 16 ohm inputs) I think?

Re: I know this has been asked before - ohm question

If you're not pushing the amp balls out the mismatch shouldn't be any problem to any decently designed amp.

Re: I know this has been asked before - ohm question

There are two 16 ohm outputs on the amp. I want to avoid wiring it for stereo because I would have to hack a vintage plate on the back of the cab. The head is a AMPEG B-25b.

Re: I know this has been asked before - ohm question

Check the schematic from the output transformer and based on it either:
1) Make a Y speaker cable and place the two plugs into both of the amp's jacks, the other end into the 8 ohm cab.
OR
2) Place a 'blank' plug (no wires attached) in the amp's jack 1 and run a speaker cable from jack 2 to the 8 ohm cab.
