DON BARNES, flew into HAMMOND INDIANA, for a benefit for STREATOR IL TORNADO victim's called the VOICES OF ROCK, hosted by my friend KEVIN CHALFONT, (707 band-THE STORM-JOURNEY- TWO FIRES ) & his current band THE STORM, all of DON'S gear is in FLORIDA, & he needed a GTR, my buddy former band mate JASON CALLAWAY(he got to play on 2 songs), knew i have a 56 L/P JR, so that is how i became involved,- anyway , all of my gtrs are setup w/009 strings, w/higher action,- don likes 010's & low action, so i setup my lp/jr, & my 2000 cust 24,& sent them thursday,with KEVINS band for a soundcheck,- i went to indy friday afternoon, & was told by kevin, don wanted the action even lower,on the PRS,( he didn't use theJR) + when i realized they tuned down 1/2 step,the trem was tilted backward, so i removed the 5th spring that i installed (w/010'S) got the trem evened out again got it all set up & intonated, only about 10 minutes before the show started,- i was really starting to get nervous about the time schedule, ( i only had 45 minutes of sleep the nite before, i was like a zombie)but i got it done,- DON said he liked the guitar & was happy w/action(i kept tweaking it having him play tweak some more),i have a video of him playing in the dressing room & onstage,(zoom q3 recorder)- i want to CLEARLY STATE, i am not a pro GTR TECH, just been setting up my own gtrs for 35 yrs or more,this chance fell into my lap by chance because of my LP/JR,- i was fortunate to have the whole 38 SPECIAL band sign it a few yrs ago at a concert iin town of OTTAWA Il a few yrs ago at the SILVER SLIPPER FIELD OF DREAMS BEER GARDEN, owned by my bro/inlaw& my 2 best friends, I have been a 38 fan for over 30 yrs,(purch my 1"st album because it had a LP/JR picture on it) the show was GREAT, but unfortunatly there was a small crowd, but it was for a good cause.there was other rock stars there also,but this thread is already long... BTW THE STORM 2010 version is a TOP NOTCH BAND,handpicked by KEVIN CHALFONT of guys from the area,the lead gtr player is RALPH GARDNER,he played 95 0/0 of the leads in all the song played that nite.
