My old SABINE has given up the ghost. Worked great for many years but it's heading for the land fill. I'd like to pick up a new one today. What's a real good one these days? Thanks, Lew

Korg's floor one, the square silver one. Thats a great, reliable tuner.

Re: I need a new guitar tuner...recomendations?

I have a Sabine I used a lot ... it was quick and easy to use, but I pulled out my old Boss TU-12, and the calibration was more accurate - don't know why, but it was.

Lots of folks like the Boss floor model that looks like a stomp box, too.

Lew....I'm using the Peterson Virtual Strobe Tuner VS1...Best and most accurate tuner I've ever used...Money well spent. This tuner sweetened up our whole ban'd sound as we all use the same tuner..

What's one of those run? Thanks!

Re: I need a new guitar tuner...recomendations?

Peterson just came out with a "Strobostomp" pedal tuner but it's pricey at $189 @ Guitar Center. I've always liked Korg tuners myself.

Re: I need a new guitar tuner...recomendations?

My Boss TU-2 has never failed me. Nice sweet boss stompbox which is simple to use and seems very accurate.

I think I paid $225 for mine. Worth every penny in my book.

Re: I need a new guitar tuner...recomendations?

After all these years you need a tuner Lew!! - shame, on you your ears should be "tuned to perfection" to be able to have the right pitch - tuning fork man!!:saeek:

Re: I need a new guitar tuner...recomendations?

I agree with John, the Peterson Virtual Strobe series is the way to go. I have a VS1 that I've used for about two years now, and I could never go back to an ordinary tuner after using it. The older VS1 model used to be $169 new at American Musical Supply, and $199 at Musicians Friend. The newer VS2 has a couple of new features, like sweetened bass tuning offsets, Buzz Feiten tuning offsets, and a true bypass so that it can be used on a pedalboard. If you don't need these features, go with the VS1. I'm not sure what they retail for these days, but I've been seeing them going for $140 or so on Ebay. If you want to play out with it, get the Peterson Strobostomp. Like the other two models, it's accurate to 1/10 of a cent, but it's designed to be a pedal tuner, whereas the other two are meant more for handheld use. The Strobostomp has most of the features of the VS1 and VS2, plus it is true bypass, and it can power other nine volt pedals in your chain.

Re: I need a new guitar tuner...recomendations?

Boss TU-2 rules. Easy to see in the dark, pretty accurate with the convenience of a stomp box. Throw it on your pedal board and you won't have to worry about it. I love how you can choose to have the pedal silence all your gear while tuning (very intelligent option IMHO). This pedal can also power up multiple other pedals as well.

Peterson makes the most accurate tuners around. They are very expensive. The Strobostomp looks great, but since it just came out I'm not sure how good it is. The silence feature on the Boss is awesome, so if Peterson has that and you have the cash to spend, that might be the best purchase.

I recently got a Virtual Strobe II for $195 at Guitar Center.

If you're doing setups and intonation, I think it's worth every penny. Intonating to equal temperament, then tuning to the "Guitar" temperament really sounds great.

If you just need to tune your guitar, I'd go with a Korg.

BTW initially, the Peterson hummed badly in my signal chain. There's a mod on their website - apparently I got an early production one. Also, Peterson sent me a different wall-wart for free and that cleaned up the sound completely.

Like me!! Expensive, but accurate and portable.

Korg CA-30 or GA-30.

LOL! Can you tune your guitar to E without a tuner? I can get really close. I have pretty good relative pitch...not perfect pitch tho. Lew

Re: I need a new guitar tuner...recomendations?

If you need a tuner to use on the stage, I don't think that you can go wrong with a boss TU-2. At least 90% of guys that I see (around my town anyway) use this onstage when they have a tuner in the signal chain. I just bought one myself too, and I really like it. The Petersons also look really good, but I've never had experience with them or seen anyone use them short of professional touring acts (probably because they're so expensive!).

Re: I need a new guitar tuner...recomendations?

BOSS TU-12H ,still the best (IMHO)for setups, for a bit more the new BOSS TU-15 is really nice as it incorporates lowered tunings, and alternate/open tunings (of course you can do that with the TU-12H as it's chromatic), and a few other features as well (octave identify, and tone generations, I think are some of them). I haven't used that one though, but what I like is that it still keeps the analogue meter as well as the led tuning indaictors.
TU-12H for sure. The only bad thing I can say about the TU-12H is the it's condensor mike isn't that great for acoustic instruments, you'd be better off plugging in one of those clip on transducers that are made for tuning acoustic instruments. You could also carry it a step further and take the mike element out of the tuner, although you might have to put a resistor back in it's place, not sure on that ... Now that I think about it, that mike is a condensor, so maybe that would be a capacitor instead of the resistor if a substitution component is needed. I do know that unless they have changed the circuit (possible as my TU-12H is 17 years old) the TU-12H's mike stays on when an instrument is plugged in, so acoustic noise will register on the tuner also.
