I really like the sound of inductor based wahs, but in terms of reliability, controllability of sweep and functionality, I use a morley too.
Plus the buffer is really good.
Ace...check out the used market for a Pro Series II. Its the bargain of the wah world and its also one of the best.
on/off switch, light and a volume control for boosting/cutting/matching.

I just went thru this myself. I did a search on what wah's are available, what features they have, listened to some YouTube clips, and read some reviews on them for issues and reliability. Didn't take long. For me, an AC plug is mandatory, and I prefer an easy-open battery compartment, with no tools needed in case I use it without a pedal board. That eliminated a few pedals. I like to be able to adjust the sound with a knob or two, so I can get the tones I want. If it only has one sound, you may not be thrilled with it thru your rig. Versatility is a big plus. That further narrows it down. Then I looked at prices. Several stood out as good candidates for me. It was actually an enjoyable process and I learned a few things about wah's.

That was intentional. What appeals to me may not work for guys that play other kinds of music. There's a lot of good wah's out there; I settled on the MXR CAE & the Dunlop 535Q for my needs. I've used old Vox & Cry Baby wah's sporadically in the past, but didn't want to put the time & money into adding mods to them; I'd rather just start with pedals that have those features from the factory. Now that I've seen some of the newer designs that come a number of well-thought-out and sought-after features, I'm pumped up to use wah's more. I never really paid much attention to wah's in the past, and there's been some interesting developments.

Typically, I'd say a 535Q is THE Wah to get these days. (Along with your EVH Phaser and a Digitech CF7 Chorus factory)

But I really need the light on stage. In between my boots and all the adrenalin, I need to be able to SEE what is on and off. I do a bit of a tap dance through the set…


And the more I look closely at the Demon, the more I see it as a somewhat improved 535Q! Very interesting feature set….

Only Wah I own and use is the George Dennis optical.

I use a Fulltone Clyde. The chassis is designed to allow using the full sweep of the pot. Don't how much difference it makes, but he uses either actual old stock Vox parts or NOS military surplus parts (supposedly rigidly conforming in tolerances). But I can say this thing is smooth and always sounds like a famous record.

Hendrix was stoned and didn't need a light. SRV was stoned and didn't need a light. Ace is moderately sober and needs a light.

i liked it a bit more after i fine tuned the trimpots inside. There is gain and q controls in there. Really good unit. Sounds better than my vintage vox, modded gcb95 or jimi hendrix wahs. Ibe not tried a fulltone or teese unit but id be guessing it compares favourably with them too.The leds even change colour depending on which inductor you are using. They had pretty much thrown the kitchen sink at it in the design stages.

Funny i still use my Morley when i need a wah tho. It just works.

I have a Morley Bad Horsie 2. Love it! It is a bit of a marmite pedal when it comes to the voicing - you either love it or hate it. the switchless function is a godsend, plus nice to have the switchable boost/contour mode to cut through the mix with minimal fuss.

That said, I pretty much never use wah anymore outside of home practice. My main band is a 50's style rock n roll band so a Steve Vai wah wouldn't really sit right with our sound... Although, now I am tempted to be a bit silly at the next gig...

That's about right….

Had a couple of beers, maybe a shot or two, and getting old. Hard to see between bad eyes and the fog machine. As for stage sound, I wander around so you never know what monitor/amp sound will be in my ears.
