I need an electric/Acoustic guitar asap

Been asked by one of my best friends to play a song at his wedding while the bride walks down the isle!
Great honor! beautiful kids getting married too! Ceremony is 3 weeks away, (I just found out date yesterday!) They are in a hurry!

Anyhow She wants an acoustic piece played as she walks down the aisle and I don't own one....

Looking at this used from GC its 199.. Applause AE148

because I've always liked the looks of them, but my concern is that its a shallow backed instrument and the wedding is outdoors, I NEED PROJECTION! (they don't want me amping it)

also maybe this:

I could borrow a friends acoustic guitar, but I can also use this as an excuse to buy another guitar. Just can't justify spending more than 2 bills on one for myself.....

Used guitar would be fine, I am currently beginning ebay search. and the only thing I certainly don't want is Fender/Squire anything.

I'd Really like to have a electric/acoustic since I hardly ever play anywhere unplugged.... might be fun to expand my horizons a bit while I'm shopping...

THOUGHTS? SUGGESTIONS for me?

thanks in advance

I'm likely to get flamed for this, but here goes. The nicest sounding and playing acoustic guitar I've ever played was a $250 Yamaha. Seriously, if you need an inexpensive acoustic check out Yamaha ASAP.

I've played high end Ovations, Taylors, Martins, etc... but I was shocked at how good the $250 yamaha sounded. Sure, the finish wasn't as nice as some of the higher end brands, but that is to be expected.

If I were you, I would buy a used yamaha and an SD Woody.

I have heard nothing but good things from lower priced Yamaha....

Re: I need an electric/Acoustic guitar asap

Another +1 for Yamaha, I have a CPX EA15 that plays and sounds splendid, my band mates also have Yamaha's.... the guitarist has an APX1200 and our singer has just bought a LLX36C which is quite simply the best electro acoustic I've ever heard or played it's stunning! Yamaha's are great right across the board.

Re: I need an electric/Acoustic guitar asap

I also agree on Yamaha. (Think Dreadnought for unamplified volume)

But why won't your friend let you amplify?

Re: I need an electric/Acoustic guitar asap

Not sure about electric/acoustic models, but Seagull has some decent offerings at reasonable prices.

Re: I need an electric/Acoustic guitar asap

I had a Yamaha box years ago and the tone was righteous
but like PFD said
you want a dread size for volume

rent one for the gig

borrow one

the smaller bodies sound ok in your living room
and have a more familiar feel
but outdoors you need the bigger on
it may be uncomfortable and you wont want to keep it

Re: I need an electric/Acoustic guitar asap

without amping the guitar your screwed. even at a small place outdoors you will be very quiet unless you get a big bodied guitar and are pounding on it.

those shallow guitars do not project.

i would just borrow your friends guitar

Re: I need an electric/Acoustic guitar asap

The full sized applause project better than most. I didnt see it was a shallow one. Get the fullsized one, and bang away. Its all about making the bride happy. . its bout the picturesque scneario of having troubadour in the picture, its more not about the actual performance, and less about the sound. Just strum as hard as you can, look good doing it, and everyone will be happy as can be.

Re: I need an electric/Acoustic guitar asap

My first guitar was a 300 Yamaha acoustic. I'm still regretting the day that I gave it away.

Re: I need an electric/Acoustic guitar asap

as I am being edumacated, I am leaning towards a dreadnought... I pound on guitars more than the average untalented beast.

Re: I need an electric/Acoustic guitar asap

Don't use the Applause, those things have horrid projection. If you can find an Epiphone Masterbilt in your budget (not sure what it is) they are AMAZING guitars.

:EDIT:
Nevermind, just re-read your post, I don't think you'll find an Epi Masterbilt for under 200. I would second the Seagull or Yamaha recommendations.

The Full sized Applause. Those big round full sized composite bowls really project, more than any Yamaha , seagull or other cheap laminate guitar.plus they look cool. Epi masterbulits are cheap laminate guitars, and the sound does not project from them, but gets buried in all that junky wood.

There any music store near you?

I can't recommend playing an acoustic before buying it enough.

Re: I need an electric/Acoustic guitar asap

I have a Celebrity model (next step up from Applause)

Projection SUCKS!

I vote Yamaha Dread. Just get whatever the cheapest Yamaha is - it will be fine.

I say get a small acoustic amp (borrow one) Like a Small Crate 30 Watt.
