Hey.

I've got a tele and im installing a Hot rails in the bridge and neck. I built this guitar so the wiring i'm strating fresh, i mean no factory wiring to worry about or anything.
I 2 500k pots- 1 volume and 1 tone. + a 5 way pickup selector.

Ok what i'm looking to do is have Position
1- be the bridge pickup (by it self)
2- brige pup split
3- bridge and neck pup combo
4- neck split
5- neck (by it self)

I cant find a schematic for this type of set up.
and no this one http://www.seymourduncan.com/website/support/schematics/2hum_vol_tone_5way-w-split.html
will not work for me.

If anybody has done this type of set up brfore or knows where i can find a schmatic for this please help!

thanks

Re: I need (complicated) wiring help.

You need a superswitch. They sell them at stewmac.

Re: I need (complicated) wiring help.

ya, you need a superswitch, i'll draw up a diagram for you tomorrow, you dont want me to do it at night :laugh2:

Re: I need (complicated) wiring help.

There's a megaswitch form the german manufatcor "Eyb", which are especially build for this setup!

http://www.eyb-guitars.de/english/frameintro.htm

Look under "Megaswitch"

It doesn't have 4 "boards" like other superswitches, it only has one with 7 or 8 terminals.
You can use it for 2 Humbuckers, or for 3 Single's (In the middle Position you have neck & bidge PU, not the middle PU)

damnit! :smack:

ok sorry guys, dont worry about drawing me up a diagram HolyDirt.

I'm not gonna buy a super switch.

Thanks for the help though guys.

Re: I need (complicated) wiring help.

You know, this wiring would be real simple with a 3-way lever switch and one push/pull pot. You may want to consider going that route. ;)

yeah i was thinking about that.

Re: I need (complicated) wiring help.

The eyb megaswitch is not much more expensive than a push-pull-pot.
Once, i replaced the push-pull-pot with this switch.

It's not that i dont wanna spend a few bucks and buy the mega switch its just that I will have to order the mega switch off the internet, which isnt that big of a deal either its just that i'll be ready to set this guitar up in a few days and i can wait around for a mega switch to arrive later.

I got one option that you can use now if you don't mind both pups being split in the middle (#3 position); other wise you'll have to order a switch from Fender, it's a 2 pole 5 throw lever switch ... But the throws are independent like the super switches, and is probably cheaper than the mega switches(in their case,* if *you get the right type ... they are made by Schaller, and I don't think the E-type switch would do what you need. I have seen referrence to a E+-type switch .... but I believe that to be a misprint/typo.) Hold tight, I'll doodle.

Re: I need (complicated) wiring help.

Okay, here's the first ... and I used Fender's artwork ... so they can sue me ... (don't even think about it ... )

And here is the second one, with the Fender switch that you'll have to order ...

BTW ... Although it shouldn't have to be said ... The thing about the '50's vs. '60's & '70's tone wiring ... I know someone out there, somewhere will need to hear this ... Use the red path for one option, and the yellow path for the other option ... NOT BOTH!!!

So your saying the red & yellow that goes from one Pot to the other in the schmatic? If so why? If i understand what you are saying is that chosingone or the other will give you a different tone?

It's called '50's mod or '50's wiring, If you choose the '50's wiring the guitar won't lose as much treble when you turn down, although it lessens the effect of the tone control when it's turned down and the volume is turned down as well. When the volume is a ten neither wiring has any difference in tone. Simple, if you don't want the guitar to roll off treblewhen the volume is turned down use the '50's wiring, if you do want it to warm up like that when you turn down, then use the '60's & '70's wiring.

Ok i get what you are saying. and since I never turn down the volume on my guitars i guess either the 50's or 60's will be fine.

thanks again for all the help Kent!
