I need help deciding on a speaker.

I want to replace the stock speaker in my marshall dsl 401, its between the eminence governor(v30), private jack(greenback) or the celestion v30. I also plan on getting an avatar 2x12 and I need to know what speakers I want in that too. The only speakers I have ever played are greenbacks in a 4x12 w/ a dsl100 and I liked them alot. I think an eminence governor in my 401 and a governor and a private jack in the 2x12. What do you recommend.

At first I was worried about not going with Celestions, but I'm glad I tried Eminences. Right now I'm using 2 Eminence Tonkers in a 4x12 cab and they are outstanding speakers for clean work. After a bit of break in they sound great with overdrive as well. Have you looked at the specs on the Wizard? If I were in your position, I'd call Dave over at Avatar. He is very helpful and can give you his recommendations. In fact, he was almost too helpful b/c it made my choice harder, lol. But if you're gonna order from them, be sure to call him first.

By the way, are you going to use the Avatar with the DSL or another amp?

i recently purchased a dsl 401.. thought rather than posting a message id bump one. only out of curiosity, i wont be modding anything til after the warranty

It depends on the sound you are looking for.
I am a big fan of greenbacks in a closed back 212 or 412 cabinet. However, with an open back cabinet, I like something with a little more bass response.
I actually like the GT75 speaker in an open back, though I don't like them in a closed back. It is pretty balanced that way and it should be a good sonic match for your DSL. You can get them cheap on ebay.

you need hemp my friend. Eminence makes some damn good hempcone speakers(i forgot the model) and for a hella lot less than Tone Tubby. If not, then go with a good copperhead or red Fang.Cant go wrong with a Emi Texas either.

When i had my DSL i stuck an extra T75 i had in there, and it was really piercing in the highs. I dont recommend that speaker at all unless it is always cranked. The stock speaker sounded better then it did...
