I Need Recording Advice For Drums

I have a Shure SM57 and a Sennheiser E609 mic connected to a mixer and then into a Roland BR600 recorder. I have a drum machine and the BR600 also has a decent drum machine built in.

My problem is that I suck at drumming and I can't get any of those patterns to fit what I am playing. I would like to start recording some guitar demos so I can get a band together. I want to post some clips here for the forum brothers so I can get some feedback on my playing and tone. Should I just record the rhythm and lead without the drums or make due and create the beats the best I can?

IMO, some midi-based graphical drum programming software is going to work best, though I don't have any experience using a drum machine (console type), and don't really know what they're capable of. The graphical program will allow you to tweak the drum patterns and tailor them to your music. I use Garageband and the graphical program that comes with it, with decent results. I will probably go to drumkit from hell, or something similar eventually though.

If either of those pieces of equipment can be plugged into a computer, and edited graphically, that could work too

BTW, I have done clips without drums and with drums, and they have their place, especially in the context of getting critique. Both ways works. Try these 2 clips to see how a clip can stand alone without drums, vs one with drums.
