I never knew a AXE FX could sound like this

My favs were the EVH 5150, the JCM 800, and the Fryette Deliverance. They all had that roar I like to hear. Can a JCM 800 really sound like that?

If you look closely, he shows the chains he had in the Axe FX. The JCM800 was the only one with an EQ before and after the cab sim. (The Soldano was the only one with a compressor before the overdrive.)

Some amps he was using an 808, others a Rat to get more distortion. A lot of them sounded fairly similar and that was probably more because of the cabs and not the amps. The cabs are the key.

That's really cool and a good video, but it's kind of hard to get a real idea of the sound with just metal rhythm. I wish there were some interludes or lead lines too. I actually went shopping for an AxeFx recently, but decided that I just can't choose a processor over a tube amp when the price tag is $2100.

800 and Mk IV were my favorite of the bunch...though that really shouldn't have surprised me.

I am gonna get one eventually, just need to wait a couple years to save up. hefty purchase there for hobbie stuff when I gotz the goodz on teh cheap for now

I dig his foot cam shotz, uuber death metalz dem dare

Re: I never knew a AXE FX could sound like this

A good friend (who was a total tube snob) has been using the AFX for a couple years now. I don't think there is anything it can't do with the right tweaking.

I see only a black square. I'm using an Iphone.

Re: I never knew a AXE FX could sound like this

I never knew you needed a rat with a diezel for some gain!

AWESOME.

My faves were the Bogner Uberschall, Marshall JCM 800, and the EVH 5150 III.

While this demo is good as a non modern metal guy I haven't found many clips or videos of the AXE-FX in a non metal scenario which I would be most interested in as a recording device (for reamping and such) and a live fx device. Also never heard a demo of one with single coils.

Yeah, the Uberschall, it sounded juicier/meatier than the others..

The 800 was great too...

Probably because it's the modern metal guys that are more experimental with technology.

You might want to contact these guys:

http://www.silentundergroundstudio.com/

They're big on the AxeFX, see if you can send them a clip for reamping to hear how it'd sound.

Would rather hear the amp sims without the extra pedals and tweaks and through the same mic and cabs. That way I could get a better sense of what the differences in the sims are they all had a similar texture to me in the mids and im curious if its the sims or the other stuff going on.

It's all kinda generic sounding really. Too much gain and no balls. I know this technology has come far... But I've never seen a live band that uses a modeler that cut through the mix right. It always feels wrong. It def ain't rock and roll.

If you have seen bands with a modeler and they're not cutting through the mix, they may not be setting it up properly. There are plenty of larger well-known bands using them live and most people probably aren't aware of it. Dino Cazares of Fear Factory was using a Line 6 head 10+ years ago and sounded just fine.

This video may also be showcasing sounds that you're not interested in. It will do rock sounds. This video was titled "High Gain Amp Showcase". Some people may have an idea of high gain that is lower than others. (I know someone here, that shall remain unnamed, considers Led Zeppelin to be high gain.)

If Fractal ever came out with a plugin version for the computer I'd snatch it up instantly. I just don't like the idea of paying $2000 for a underpowered specialized computer that I can't repair myself if something goes wrong. If they wanted to charge $500 for the software and some kind of PCIe licensing card or rely on an ilok2, they'd clean up. In the meantime, I'll use a combination of real amps and Revalver. (Although, I could probably get everything I need with Revalver, it just doesn't have any solid state amp sims that would give me some of the sounds I want.)

that's my problem with these kind of toys too...it's a computer that will get outdated very soon and that noone other than Fractal will be able to repair it...unlike a well built tube amp that will serve well for decades and is relatively easily serviced/modded. IIRC, it's not underpowered at all.

To me the Uberschall didnt have no cojones. Tone reminded me of a potato chip an fried chicken really really crispy. If I was playing strictly lead or not a lot of rhythm I would use it but It didnt roar like the JCM and EVH and Fryette did like a bat outta hell.

Re: I never knew a AXE FX could sound like this

Anyone else thinking "I knew an AxeFX could sound like that."

That's all I ever hear an AxeFX sounding like
