When I started playing other guitars only then did I realize how friggen close that thing was to the volume knob, and consequently I was able to move my hand closer to the bridge and get more attack from my sound. Now when I play Strats my hand runs into the thing all the time, and if I'm using a tram bar that knob is in the perfect spot to get in my way.
My solution? Move the volume knob into the neck tone slot, and wire the 2nd tone knob as a master. Boom. Problem solved.
And yes, I know they designed it that way in the 50s so Bill Carson could get pedal-steel style volume swells out of the guitar.
